Now people may ask things like: "Why?" and the answer is: For a primitive approach to #SecureComputing.

  • Because loading the #OS into #RAM allows not just for a non-persistent setup like an #SSH-#Terminal (think #VT320 but better!) but being hard-wired as #ReadOnly means it's tamper proof by design when combined with an intrusion-detection & tamper-proof seals: Physical Access will be detectable and Remote Access cannot cause permanent damages.

And that may also be useful with other #ThinClient-like "aplianced" devices.

  • Basically for anything where #NetworkBoot ain't an option for whatever reasons!

"#JamieZawinski has #repeatedly said:

Now hear me out, but What If…? #browser #development was in the hands of some kind of #nonprofit #organization?

In my #humble but #correct #opinion, #Mozilla should be doing two things and two things only:

#Building THE #reference #implementation #WebBrowser and
Being a jugular-#snapping #attack #dog on #standards #committees.
There is no 3."
"Perhaps this is the only #viable #resolution."

"#Mozilla, for all its many #failings, has #invented a lot of #amazing #tech, from #Rust to #Servo to the #leading #budget #phone #OS. It shouldn't be trying to #capitalize on this #stuff. Maybe 3encourage it to have semi-independent #spinoffs, such as #Thunderbird, and as #KaiOS ought to be, and as #Rust could have been."
"But #JamieZawinski has the only #clear #vision and #solution we've seen yet. Perhaps he's #right, and #Mozilla #should be a #nonprofit, #working to #fund the one #independent, non-#vendor-driven, #standardscompliant #browserEngine."

Iaso decided to develop Anubis after discovering that her own Git server was struggling with AI scrapers, bots that crawl the web hoovering up anything that can be used for the training data that power AI models. Like many libraries, archives, and other small organizations, Iaso discovered her Git server was getting slammed only when it stopped working.

This (reported in the FT) looks good. Big fan of the #OS app. In a better world it would be used to actually get landowners to take their responsibilities seriously.

I'd never been interested in the market share of #OS vendors across all platforms.

But it's a very interesting statistic:
- #Google is close to 48% with #Android
- #Microsoft at 24.5% with #Windows
- #Apple at 22% with #iOS + #OSX + #macOS
- #Linux at 1.5%

Not at all surprised to see Google 1st in terms of the quantity of Android smartphones sold, but still, double that of Microsoft!

Another surprise: Apple is hot on its heels! Mainly thanks to iOS.

Which shows how the failure of Windows Phone/Mobile has truly changed the game in home computing.

Are Web Components & Cybersecurity A Better Combo?

I'm not trying to dunk on popular #UI #frameworks – I'm sure they're totally fine for #cybersecurity stuff, probably get loads of reviews and #audits.

But from my angle: Web Components are *native* to the #browser. Doesn't that just inherently reduce the risk of **#SupplyChainAttacks** (you know, like a rogue `npm install` on a bad network) for your #AppSecurity?

Or am I overthinking it, and the #framework choice is less important than the #browser, #OS, or #device running it? What are your thoughts, #DevCommunity?

---

Quick context: I've got a #ReactJS #messagingApp (repo here: github.com/positive-intentions) and a separate #UIFramework (repo here: github.com/positive-intentions) built with #Lit (which uses Web Components). I'm genuinely wondering if there's a compelling #cybersecurity reason to refactor the chat app to use my #WebComponent UI framework. Might be a whole new level of #SecurityByDesign for #FrontEndDev.

FYI, same question's on Reddit here: reddit.com/r/ExperiencedDevs/c, got some good #insights, but want to make sure nothing's getting overlooked! Let's discuss #InfoSec #WebDev #JavaScript #OpenSource #TechQuestion.
