Dr. G. But it is better than nothing!!! I guess a sub-optimal tool is better than no tool.

Tom Sellers
There is quite a bit of buzz related to CVE-2025-24054 which covers attackers causing victims to leak NTLM hashes if they open certain files or view certain directories. In short, this forces victims running Windows to make a connection to an attacker controlled SMB share.

If you prevent SMB traffic from leaving your networks then you don't have to worry about this unless the attacker has already setup shop in your network. Like, patch anyway but, IMO, it would be a better use of your time to ensure that outbound SMB is blocked first. Don't forget to account for mobile devices that are off-network.

#Security #Windows

Natsura :trans_verify:
It has been ONE YEAR since I started using #LinuxMint, and I wanted to detail my thoughts since making the change from #Windows to #Linux.

It has had its ups and downs, but it has been mostly a positive change. One of the positive changes has been a lack of spyware bloatware, and also a lack of unnecessary programs coming installed by default. For example it doesn't come with Microsoft Office preinstalled (instead it comes with Libre Office preinstalled. It also doesn't require you to make a Microsoft account (or login with one) in order to set up the operating system.

One of the cons I find is the amount of errors I run into by running Linux instead of Windows, but those are easily fixed without much stress. I also find not as many programs are as compatible with Linux, but there are workarounds for that as well (mainly through Wine, but other fixes exist for compatibility issues).

I also love how customizable it is. You have a lot more freedom in regards to how you want your operating system to look like. If you want it to look more like a standard mac OS (with a doc on the bottom and standard info on top, then you can).

Would I recommend Linux Mint to a someone who is looking into making the switch to Linux for the first time? Yes I would! That said I would tell them to do their research on what they plan on doing, and what issues might arise, so they can more easily solve their issues as they pop up.

AI6YR Ben
I know it's a big lift, but if you're running Windows 10, it's a great time to try out a desktop version of Linux... because you're going to have to replace that machine anyway (or risk it being another machine on some hacker's massive DDoS-for-hire farm). Alternately, it's an opportunity for those of us who are not handcuffed by Microsoft to pick up free, highly capable machines for free 😉 (and load them with Linux).

Microsoft still has a massive Windows 10 problem - and there's no easy way out

"...Hundreds of millions of PCs will be running Windows 10 when the end-of-support date rolls around.
