xoron :verified:<p>Are Web Components &amp; Cybersecurity A Better Combo?</p><p>I'm not trying to dunk on popular <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/UI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UI</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/frameworks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>frameworks</span></a> – I'm sure they're totally fine for <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cybersecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cybersecurity</span></a> stuff, probably get loads of reviews and <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/audits" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>audits</span></a>.</p><p>But from my angle: Web Components are *native* to the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/browser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>browser</span></a>. Doesn't that just inherently reduce the risk of **<a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SupplyChainAttacks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SupplyChainAttacks</span></a>** (you know, like a rogue `npm install` on a bad network) for your <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/AppSecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AppSecurity</span></a>?</p><p>Or am I overthinking it, and the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework</span></a> choice is less important than the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/browser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>browser</span></a>, <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/OS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OS</span></a>, or <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/device" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>device</span></a> running it? What are your thoughts, <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/DevCommunity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DevCommunity</span></a>?</p><p>---</p><p>Quick context: I've got a <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/ReactJS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ReactJS</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/messagingApp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>messagingApp</span></a> (repo here: <a href="https://github.com/positive-intentions/chat" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/positive-intentions</span><span class="invisible">/chat</span></a>) and a separate <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/UIFramework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UIFramework</span></a> (repo here: <a href="https://github.com/positive-intentions/dim" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/positive-intentions</span><span class="invisible">/dim</span></a>) built with <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Lit" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Lit</span></a> (which uses Web Components). I'm genuinely wondering if there's a compelling <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cybersecurity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cybersecurity</span></a> reason to refactor the chat app to use my <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/WebComponent" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebComponent</span></a> UI framework. Might be a whole new level of <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/SecurityByDesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SecurityByDesign</span></a> for <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/FrontEndDev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrontEndDev</span></a>.</p><p>FYI, same question's on Reddit here: <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/ExperiencedDevs/comments/1lmk1rg/are_web_components_better_for_cybersecurity/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">reddit.com/r/ExperiencedDevs/c</span><span class="invisible">omments/1lmk1rg/are_web_components_better_for_cybersecurity/</span></a>, got some good <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/insights" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>insights</span></a>, but want to make sure nothing's getting overlooked! Farooq | فاروق<p>So I am thinking about launching a <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/FOSS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FOSS</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/searchengine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>searchengine</span></a> locally. It would cache so when I don't have internet access, I could browse the small web and enjoy great articles. I could also give access to interested friends and family.</p><p>Do you have suggestions other than <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/yacy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>yacy</span></a> and <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/wiby" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>wiby</span></a>?</p><p>Yacy seems better but the search quality is not good. And regarding wiby, it uses <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/sql" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sql</span></a> for the database :/</p><p>Boosts very much appreciated.</p><p>PS: The blogs which do <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/linkdump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linkdump</span></a> like <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://oldbytes.space/@82mhz" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>82mhz</span></a></span> would be a very good seed. Already roasted meat ready to be served :)</p><p>Edit: I thought development of Yacy has stopped. But checking their repo, they are still active:</p><p><a href="https://github.com/yacy" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">github.com/yacy</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p>Edit2: On Yacy forum, people complain about bugs and no update. I also have found this: <a href="https://marginalia-search.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">marginalia-search.com/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/marginalla" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>marginalla</span></a></p><p><a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/freesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>freesoftware</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/websearchengine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>websearchengine</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/websearch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>websearch</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/opensourcewebsearch" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>opensourcewebsearch</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/web" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>web</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/smallweb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>smallweb</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/askfedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>askfedi</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/askfediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>askfediverse</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/techadvice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techadvice</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/techquestion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techquestion</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>technology</span></a> <a href="https://cr8r.gg/tags/computer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>computer</span></a></p>
AnneArchy Anne<p>Probably a relatively basic tech question, but I want to be sure I'm understanding correctly! </p><p>I'm looking at getting a Dell monitor (U2723QE) to go with my 2020 M1 macbook pro. I think I'm reading correctly that the monitor uses HDMI or USB-C, and that my macbook has 2 Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. </p><p>My question: What type of cable will I need to connect these? Is an adapter of any kind required?</p><p><a href="https://glammr.us/tags/techQuestion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techQuestion</span></a> <a href="https://glammr.us/tags/techHelp" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techHelp</span></a></p>
DaniPanic<p>Hey there, Apple Fediverse users! I've got a friend who's giving Mastodon a try (for a second time). She's having trouble finding a decent client app - she's tried Mammoth and Metatext, and neither were to her liking, and she isn't comfortable using Xcode to install Feditext on her device.</p><p>What other decent clients are there for Mastodon on Apple? :blobcatthinking: <a href="https://girlcock.club/tags/techquestion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techquestion</span></a> <a href="https://girlcock.club/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a> <a href="https://girlcock.club/tags/iphone" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>iphone</span></a> <a href="https://girlcock.club/tags/techsupport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techsupport</span></a></p>

Erin Conroy<p>Thank you for the replies, everyone! Consensus is it's an instance problem.</p><p><a href="https://progressives.social/tags/techquestion" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>techquestion</span></a> <a href="https://progressives.social/tags/help" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>help</span></a></p><p>I keep getting a "Rate limited. Please try again after xxx time" message when I try to post, and even (I think) when my feed is just trying to refresh. Occasionally I can get a post through or get a refresh.</p><p>Is that a known issue? Is it likely to be a server/instance issue, or a problem with my account?</p><p>Edit: Also happens with attempts to boost or star. I hadn't been on at all today previously.</p>
