I like good dungeon crawlers. Especially those who are inspired by the legendary "Dungeon Master" series on the ATARI ST back in the day.

Legend of Grimmrock I+II are such beautiful games.

And here is the funny part:

My Apple #MacMini i7 can't run those games properly (missing GPU). It's stuttering (higher resolutions).

My MacBook Air M1 has absolutely no problem with those games even with higher resolutions (maxed out).

#intel is losing the game ...

I have owned three Macs mini over the years, all Intel-based models, and this morning I received the news that my 2018 #Macmini that wasn’t powering on had a “thermal issue” affecting the main logic board.

Guess it’s time to buy my fourth Mac mini.

@cliffwade Totally, the fan thing was a selling point for me too (the other docks lift the #Mac on a little ledge for that purpose which is cute but.. meh 🤷‍♂️). I have two (1tb and 2tb) external nvme drives connected right now, but I think I'll install the 2Tb directly into the dock. Will likely buy one later today, can always return later if any buyer's remorse. Thanks for the summary!

@eri even for a #Laptop or #Tablet I consider the #FrameworkDesktop a total "#WontBuy!" on my end, as it has less #Upgradeability and #Repiarability than a #Lenovo #X230Tablet or #Fairphone #FP3plus, mich less anything I consider "#Desktop" hardware.

  • Seriously, @frameworkcomputer could've chosen so much better options or just done some sort of Mounting, adaptors & I/O shield to mount a #FrameworkLaptop mainboard and expand it's I/O to be on-par with a #MacMini and people would've happily accepted that.

It's really sad when #DIYperks put in more effort than an entire company at designing a Desktop!

Well, it’s been 20 days, the experiment was successful. Using the iMac as a monitor works, but it’s a pain in the ass having to deal with 2 keyboards & 2 mice. So I looked around, at an ASUS ProArt, a Samsung, and finally sprung for a Dell this afternoon. Same resolution as the native iMac, which I couldn’t get with the kluged setup, so I’m happy. Now maybe some fine tuning with the color settings, & I’m good to go.

Ok, I have a unique #Mac #iTunes #MusicApp question that I’m hoping someone can help me with.

I have a large iTunes library in an old #Macmini with MacOS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and I want to migrate it to an #iMac running MacOS 12 (Monterey).

I have the full iTunes folder copied to the iMac. When I open the Music app with the option key it lets me select the file but then gives the error “iTunes Library.itl does not appear to be a valid library.”

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

So I’m a week in and no big surprise of course but using the old iMac as a monitor is less than ideal. It works, but the lack of resolution options is a pain, as is having to keep a keyboard & mouse for the iMac next to the ones for the mini. A weird issue is that sometimes when I wake them up the mini keyboard doesn’t respond and I have to unplug/replug it in. Rebooting the mini doesn’t help. Any recs on a 27”, hi-res, cheap monitor? The Apple Studio is $1600!

Ok, not finished, of course. As expected, some software is unhappy at moving from Intel to Apple innards. Photoshop was not a surprise. That it was easy to resolve was a surprise. Word is another. Have to buy a new license. I need Word for 1 legacy task. There’s an old version of it on the iMac that I can use when necessary. FTW. I used to enjoy doing this. I’m out of practice and it’s more anxiety-provoking than it used to be.

There’s about 350gb of stuff on the iMac.
Estimate is waffling around 3 1/2 hours +- 20 minutes. At first it was saying transfer rate was 30-40 mb/sec. Now it’s down to 5-6 mb/sec, so it’s bogging down in system and app pieces I’m guessing, thrashing around in the directory. The progress bar is sitting at around 1/4.
