Devin Prater :blind:<p>Oh great, now I’m thinking about getting a new MacBook to replace this six year old MaBook Pro that will no longer get updates. I was really looking forward to macOS 26 because VoiceOver is supposedly going to work better with Google Docs and Drive which I use for work. I use Windows for all that, but I do want to see how much I can get out of a modern Mac. Then again, VoiceOver is still VoiceOver, no matter what chip it's running on. So I might just be as disappointed as ever.</p><p>Surprisingly, this MacBook held up well, much better than any of my Windows laptops. But like, if anyone has an M1 or greater MacBook they don’t want, preferably with more than 8 GB RAM for a Windows VM, I’d happily take it. 😅</p><p><a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/Mac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mac</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/MacBook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>MacBook</span></a> <a href="https://tweesecake.social/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a></p>

Sam Clemente<p>See the big issue with Dia is that I don't use a standard web browser for much, I use web apps, sure, but I use a lot of them on the desktop through wrappers</p><p>So it's never going to really build all of this personal context for me because that's all going to be sitting at the OS-level, not the browser-level</p><p>Also trying to use something like Notion in a browser with a horizontal tab bar is unpleasant, really considering just sticking with Safari</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Technology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Technology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DiaBrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DiaBrowser</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ArcBrowser" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ArcBrowser</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Mac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mac</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/macOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>macOS</span></a></p>

Jan Ekholm<p>I have a need to port an app to Windows. I have been fortunate to not have to use Windows since the Windows 7 days. I wonder if there's a nice way to get a basic Windows version up and running in a virtual machine on a Mac. I don't need much more than Visual Studio (for the C+ compiler, or is there a better alternative?) and a sane shell (Linux subsystem?).</p><p>Is Parallels the way to go still or are there better/cheaper alternatives? I'd like to avoid VMWare.</p><p><a href="https://toot.community/tags/windows" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>windows</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/vm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vm</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/on" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>on</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/a" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>a</span></a> <a href="https://toot.community/tags/mac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mac</span></a></p>
Rod Middleton<p>So I have the Apple 26 Betas on ALL the things... there are some ODD decisions here, about transparency and usability. I am cautioulsy optimitic that neew Spotlight is pretty good on the mac at least... <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/WWDC25" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WWDC25</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.scot/tags/mac" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mac</span></a></p>
