Holy crap y'all, Quickemu is amazing! I got Windows 10, (English United States cause English International only allowed me to choose English UK for some reason), installed it with Narrator, downloaded and installed NVDA, and it barely feels like I'm running a VM at all. I kinda wonder if it'd work well at all on the BTSpeak. I could imagine it passing through Braille access on a future BTBraille.

Anyway, two commands I've figured out so far, Control + Alt + G gives control back to Linux, and Control + Alt + F puts the VM in fullscreen.

It's weird how some things just stay with you. My first exposure to mainframes was VM/CMS back in the mid-80s at IBM. Back then, the command to clear the screen was 'CLS'. I must have typed that hundreds of times over the years. Now I always add CLS as an alias for 'Clear' on my ZSH profile on macOS. As I say, weird.

ProxLB 1.0.7 (an opensource DRS alike solution for #Proxmox clusters) is just around the corner!

1.0.7 will be the last version before I'm going to publish the new refactored code base in a modern and object oriented way. Version 1.1.0 squashes some more bugs that were postponed on the current code base and makes the overall future handling much easier (including new features).

@SitaDulip AFAIK @ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS Server should launch an #SSH Server to access it's installer at boot.

Either way, you'd setup a minimalist system as a bootable image you can #SSH into and yoink that onto the target system to boot.

  • Another option is to basically setup the system in a #VM and then dd the virtual HDD into an image you can then dd onto the target machine.

If time isn't critical, any halfway decent flashdrive will do, otherwise a 2,5" SSD (in a USB Caddy) is an option as well...

If you were setting up your home #network, and wanted to make sure that important, foundational, yet lightweight services Just Kept Going, how would you run them?

For example, I'm thinking about #DNS and #DHCP for the hosts that actually provide the more user-visible network #services ... so "run them as #VM/#containers on your #homelab hosts" isn't a viable option: what provides the DNS *for* those hosts?

I quite like the idea of a pair of low-cost & low-spec mini-PCs.

What would you choose?

@libreleah @ariadne the closest to it is like the way Microsoft basically implemented 2 independent systems with completely vietualized and abstracted access in the #XboxOne which is AFAIK still unhacked.

infosec.space/@kkarhan/1128436

But their intention in terms of #security is inherently anti-user and would only be acceptable in #CriticalInfrastructure like #Avionics where you'll have to prevent malicious users from ramming a plane into the ground!

As for mass-adopted systems, I'd say that #Android (aka. #toybox + #musl / #Linux + ART) with it's #Java-#VM is the best compromise after hardened Linux-distros, BSDs with #bhyve & #jails and "#KISS-principled" #OpenBSD which all buy security at the expense of control, modablility and portability.

Infosec.SpaceKevin Karhan :verified: (@kkarhan@infosec.space)@dalias@hachyderm.io @sam@trapped.genoq.org @ariadne@treehouse.systems potentially yes. I think it's safe to look at the way #Microsoft kept the #XboxOne watertight to this day: https://youtu.be/U7VwtOrwceo Nit everything of it is applicable tho and their implemebtation requires custom silicon and microcode but ideally any I/O would be restricted to hard-sandboxed ranges and thus denied access to anything outside it. I had lenghtly conversations with @stman@mastodon.social about this whole issue and any interface like #PCIe would've to be basically sandboxed on low level and denied random I/O access entirely outside of that "IO-mapped address space"...

Strictly speaking, I recall a description of an #artifact / #tool / #VM that someone built primarily by constantly crashing and rebooting an x86-64 processor on an almost cycle by cycle basis in an effort to achieve arbitrary code execution. I'm not in the mood to find it right now. It wasn't very efficient, but it could get things done.
Are we sure that the #crowdstrike fiasco isn't computing distributed blockchain hashes?
