Time for an #Introduction post. I’m a #liveaboard #sailor (www.svloka.com) and full time #nomad who is also a #creative #artist. I play #guitar, #crochet, paint (#watercolor & #acrylic), and draw #penandink. I love #yoga and use #meditation to manage my #anxiety. Got #sober in 2020.

I am a recovering #softwareengineer (#programmer) and #ITmanager. I focused a lot on #leadership & effective #communication, and I still enjoy #mentoring people on those topics. I still tinker with tech on occasion.

I've just turned off my ADPList.org account. It's too bad, I *really* enjoyed mentoring there. It was the right tool for the right crowd at the right time. Unfortunately, it's just gone downhill in the last 6 months and I just can't support it.

I'm not really sure what I'll switch to. I'd like to keep mentoring but I'd still like to do it as a volunteer and every platform I've seen still wants to charge. I'm trying to give back. I might just use something like cal.com

🎙️ I had the absolute pleasure of being a guest on the After 40 Podcast with Dr. Deborah Heiser, PhD, where we discussed something very close to my heart—helping my mom, embrace her passion for storytelling later in life and finding a powerful driving force in her life. 🌟

My mom grew up in a small village in the hills around #Florence in post-war #Italy, filled with memories of enchanting #Tuscan nights and captivating #tales. For years, those stories lived in her imagination—until her 70s, when she decided it was time to share them with the world. Together, we created Storie Sotto Le Stelle—a website and podcast where her stories come to life in Italian and English, connecting generations through the magic of #storytelling.

Writing together has become more than just crafting stories—it’s about discovering joy and purpose, or what the Japanese call #ikigai. It’s proof that it’s never too late to take creative risks, rediscover talents, and connect deeply with loved ones. 🌟

Through storytelling, we’ve built a bridge between generations, where our imaginations meet, and where new possibilities are born. Each moment spent brainstorming, drafting, and laughing over the wild twists our stories take has become a cherished part of our journey. It’s an opportunity to connect in ways we hadn’t before, creating not just stories but memories that will stay with us forever.

The heart of the message is clear: after 40, life offers us the chance to pause, reevaluate, and redefine what truly matters. Whether it’s through storytelling, painting, hiking, or any other pursuit, the key is to embrace what brings you joy and let it guide you toward purpose and connection. 🌟

🖋️ “The #magic isn’t just in the stories we create but in the process of sharing this journey together.”

🎧 I invite you to listen to the episode and discover how we turned her lifelong love of storytelling into a creative journey.

@climatematch 🌳 and @neuromatch 🧠
are looking for #ProfessionalDevelopment Mentors for this year's Academy!

This summer there will be four courses 😯:
Computational Neuroscience, NeuroAI, Deep Learning, and Computational Tools for Climate.

Mentors will hold a one-hour meeting every week with a small cohort of students, where they will discuss with them and help them progress in their journey in industry and academia.

This is a great opportunity to...
1. Offer expert advice to students
2. Make a difference
3. Connect with other professionals

If you are interested in being a mentor you can apply on the neuromatch website: neuromatch.io/mentoring/

*Please help us spread the word!* 📣

Sometimes an @outreachy applicant will make a contribution in a Merge Request that I cannot take, but I want to use it somewhere else in a different context.

One of the things I love about #git is that it makes it easy for me to make sure credit is appropriately assigned. I am creating patch files, rebasing and squashing commits, but I can always preserve the original author's name and git platform account in the commit log.

It is subtle, but I think it is important.
