@leanlearnlead see, this kind of feature regression on top of being more expensive is why #ElectricCars suck in terms of #UX!

  • Whereas any gas station I've ever been to (informal road stalls on Siquijor don't count!) accept cash & card without hassles.

The fact that on top of being slower to load than gas up it's less convenient makes it a no-go for me as I'm not privileged to own a house where I can get a #Wallbox installed!

🕒 What if countdowns weren’t circles?

Today I had this random idea during a convo with a friend:
“What if a countdown looked like a triangle?”

Turns out… shapes make progress more visible than a circle.
So I prototyped it in Timix — triangle, square, hexagon… each side is a timer.

Would love your thoughts!

Techies are always chasing the mythical tool that will let them "focus on the work" and avoid tedious distractions like "talking to people." AI tools are only the latest to promise this impossible dream.

But talking to people IS the work. You can complain about it on the internet, or take responsibility and make your life a lot easier.

LLMs are not the first tool to promise that they can free us from having to talk to people so we can "focus on the work." But talking to people IS the work.

“The study found that #AI models often overestimated risk...

More worryingly (and unsurprisingly), the models struggled with nuanced judgments. They found it hard to decide when something was reversible or how it might affect another person.

Users want automation that is helpful and safe. An AI agent that deletes an account without asking can be a disaster. An agent that refuses to change the volume without permission can be useless.”

Oh, and this behavior persists even if searching ONLY SENT ITEMS...!

Let me repeat that: Outlook search defaults to "From" WHEN SEARCHING MY OWN "SENT ITEMS", WHICH TO THE APPARENT ASTONISHMENT OF EVERYONE AT #MICROSOFT ARE ALWAYS SENT FROM (I hope y'all are sitting down for this) ME!!!

This from a #tech corp with literally 50 years of experience.

I wish I could come up with one of my award-winning similes for this, but alas, it's simply too stupid for sarcasm 🤯

HelvedeJWcph, Radicalized By Decency (@jwcph@helvede.net)So do I have this right, #Microsoft: If I do a search in Outlook it autocompletes email addresses from the archive but defaults to "From" & when I open the advanced search pane to change that to "To", it DOESN'T autocomplete? Also, I can't copy the autocompleted email address from the default search field because it's parsed to just the display name, so to simply change to "To" I have to manually find the contact before I can even begin to search? Are... are you idiots? #ux #tech

So have I got this right, #Microsoft - if I insert a link into an #Excel spreadsheet cell, then A. I can change the link target but there's no way of stripping the link & also B. even if I delete the contents of the cell entirely, anything I subsequently write in it will still be formatted like a hyperlink & if I don't want non-functional & nonsensical links in my file I have to manually remove the underline & change the text color...?

I swear, MS errors feel like trolling.

My experience with #ubiquiti has been overwhelmingly positive. I'm a fan, and #UniFiProtect is a real highlight. I do have a new small complaint though, caused a minor panic this morning...

Your state in the playback tab persists, which I imagine is a good thing. But it's bad when you forget you were watching replay footage last time you were at your desk. I had a playback of a camera from a few days earlier, roughly same time of day. My lawnmower which was accidentally left out was gone 🤯 Might be some #UX opportunity here to make it super obvious it's not live footage...

Was hilft euch?

So do I have this right; there's a #peertube app but you can't use it to upload videos from your phone? Might I inquire what the fuck it's for if not that?

You really think there's enough content on PT to warrant an app solely for watching?

My dudes, I truly try to support the #fedi alternatives to Big Tech but it's really hard to develop healthy habits with half-finished and/or un-thought-out tools - to say nothing of recommending them to less nerdy friends & acquaintances...
