Lately, I've been thinking that there must be some benefits for #geodesy from this research on quantum entanglement. It promises the ability to send encoded timestamps in tiny wave packets of photons, and thus, in principle, allows very accurate time-delay estimation over potentially long distances.

By introducing waveguide optical parametric amplifiers and balanced detectors, the quantum correlation 4.5 dB below the shot-noise level is observed.

🛰️ I have a job where I work with systems and data from radio telescopes to track satellites.

📡 I have another job where I operate radio telescopes to collect data for geodesy, astronomy, etc.

Today, for the first time, I operated a radio telescope to collect my own data for my own experiments. It’s such a small thing but… it’s weirdly exciting to have done the whole process myself?

Like farm to table, but for data.

A large, white radio telescope dish sits atop a scrub-covered hill of orange dirt. A gum tree reaches out of left frame. The dish points up and to the left, into a perfect cloudless sky of deep blue. Behind the telescope are some low, rocky hills. The scale of the telescope structure - suggested by metal stairways and ladders that wind up its exterior - show it is maybe five or six storeys high from the peak of the subreflector to the ground. Experts may recognise this dish by the shape of certain components to be the Mopra Radio Telescope, a classic Australian instrument for radio astronomy.

Since this seems to be a new trend, here’s a short introduction to …me 😊
I am Freddie (like Mercury) and I am currently doing my PhD at #FraunhoferIPM and @unifreiburg. For my PhD, I am using #Photogrammetry to model the influence of #wind on the movements of a #tree. Sounds pretty weird at first, but when you get to the bottom of it, it is actually super interesting 😉
Before that, I studied #Geodesy @tu_muenchen and worked as an #AndroidDev at #QuickbirdStudios.
