A Historic Photo: Torvalds and Gates Together
When #Linux met #Microsoft: a historic photo of Linus Torvalds and Bill Gates standing side by side for the very first time.

From the hell is freezing department. #azure would be not existing without Linux.

And this fuels also the joke that the relationship between #WNT and #VMS is the same as between #IBM and #HAL.

Over the past months we have interviewed some of the people involved in the #ARDC, a series of #VMs hosted at the servus datacenter; we have also traced the history of #AMRO, Art Meets Radical Openness, and the general radical media art context in which #servus.at was born and still operates.

All this material is now collected in a fancy magazine called "Artists Running Data Centers", which we'll get fresh off the press tomorrow and present at STWST on Tuesday, December 17th at 7pm.

Will Damron's read of the audiobook of Cliff Stoll's "The Cuckoo's Egg" is excellent.

While the book is required reading or listening as a historical record for anyone interested in Information Security, it's a thoroughly enjoyable thriller. Though much of the technology mentioned is familiar to folks who are thinking I'm about to call them old, it's unsurprising how much remains painfully pertinent today, yet pleasing how a few things have improved significantly given only a few decades.

While some library networks such as the DoD MWR will keep you waiting months for one of their few copies, Fairfax County has unlimited copies of the audiobook.

I hope @AndresFreundTec is keeping good notes on his adventures with xz/liblzma.

Hummm... My old adversary, #KevinMitnick died.

I'll never be asked to contribute to his #obituary but he was the best #Social #Engineer I ever knew and I think he'd have been pleased to hear that -- So if he faked his death just to get that out of me, you are still a bastard, Mr Mitnick!

So, new #Introduction, such that I have something to pin to my #Profile.

I’ve always loved #Technology. First our #Commodore64 and #Atari2600. Later, #MUDs and #Gopher on a remote #VAX / #VMS.

I was a #Webmaster for a mom-and-pop #ISP in #Ohio in the mid-#90s. We ran it out of our garage. Because you could do that then.

I learned nearly every relevant tech skill I have when I was 14 at that #ISP. #Linux, #Mac, #PC. #Networking, #Telecom. #Bash, #Perl, #HTML. #SysAdmin, #TechSupport. And on.
