Shine on you crazy Diamond Quantum Magnetic Sensor.

We’re probably all familiar with the Hall Effect, at least to the extent that it can be used to make solid-state sensors for magnetic fields. It’s a cool bit of applied physics, but there are other ways to sense magnetic fields, including leveraging the weird world of #quantum #physics with this #diamond, #laser & #microwave open-source #sensor.

mookie's #introduction / #reintroduction

it's me, hi. i'm the mookie, it's me.

i'm a serial #fediverse instance creator (and destroyer) and have been doing this since 2018. many will already be familiar with my name or my avatar.

i'm the father of two awesome kids. i love watching and talking about #movies. i'm a #gamer. i eat to #run. i'm a giant #starwars and #startrek nerd. i'm a born and raised #engineer.

my home is at ultramookie.com where i should be spending more time writing.

Yesterday was #worldmetrologyday and thus, a perfect occasion to do the monthly statistical readout of my four 10V references, based on the popular LM399.

Two of them arrived January 15 and has been powered since. A couple of months later, March 22, I added two more. The idea is, that the standard deviation (noise) of the 10V output should improve with time, lots of time 😂

Well, that is in fact what I see. Three of them are now at 1.15uV, 1.17uV and 1.45uV.
The fourth however, started out really high, 81uV 😳, but has since improved to 29uV in just two months.

I plan to keep doing this, - Let’s see what the rest of the year brings 🙂🙂

Long term plan: a 10V calibration transfer 👍🏼

NASA keeps ancient Voyager 1 Spacecraft alive with Hail Mary Thruster Fix. [Before DSN Command Pause]

NASA has revived a set of thrusters on the nearly 50-year-old Voyager 1 spacecraft after declaring them inoperable over two decades ago. [Voyager 1, launched in 1977, are now traveling through interstellar space at around 56,000 kph]
