On my way back this morning from Cranberry Flats, just south of the city, I came upon this Turkey Vulture enjoying some gopher roadkill.

While learning about the bang system of #DuckDuckGo because it's useful for
terminal based web searches, I found out that you can search #Gopherspace
from DuckDuckGo!

Just do "!gopher $query" while searching for something and you'll get
Floodgap's #Gopher to web proxy with your search on Veronica!

I probably won't implement this as my script will assume the browser
has Gopher support as terminal web browsers are also almost always Gopher
clients, but maybe useful on a graphical web browser.

I think I'd like to try Links as my DOS web browser, but I can't seem to get gopher working. I set C:\GOPHERUS\GOPHERUS % as my gopher path, but it just throws an error when I try to follow links to gopher. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Internet Explorer 5 can view #gopher sites. That's pretty cool, I didn't know that.

From what I can tell, no one has posted a photo of a #gopher yet on the Fediverse (correct me if I'm wrong). So here's two.

These two gophers are in the genus Geomys, family Geomyidae. Often seen as just a destructive pest, they serve important ecological roles as fossorial mammals. And because they occur in isolated populations, they make for an interesting study organism for evolution.

Abandoning gopher was a mistake.

If our softwares were optimized, and if the web wasn't bloated, we could have dirt cheap computers. People already do a lot with RPi Pico.

I think the biggest problem is web. With an RP2040 you can do #gopher, #gemini, #email, #paint and #wordprocessing to say the least. A computer based on this could be very useful for schools. I am being tempted to do a startup or try getting a grant.

I stood up a local Gopher server, got my hole dug out the way I like it. Still need to make some ASCII art headers, and then put it on a server. Trouble is, where?

Uuuugh do I gotta fuck around with name sellers & DNS now? Or I can just open a port on mysticdungeon.club, that'd be fine I guess. I have some domains doing not much, but they're not suitable.

I tried getting telnet working, but it just opens Terminal and immediately exits, can't get it to debug why.
