This sounds about right. You should add a hardware key just to spice things up. Clearly you can add more steps to this process.

#email #work

Yes I run a mail server. Yes I see spammers/scammers trying to relay their crap email through the server. But it gets serious when they start using a botnet and they throw dictionaries at working accounts, trying to guess passwords. So naturally as a professional paranoid I have to react.

I recently added email to my mastodon instance, and with that success, I'm ready to finally cut email ties with Google. I bought a new domain name and I'll set that up with postfix/dovecot/etc, then start moving all of my various internet accounts over to it.
The new domain has a .net TLD instead of the current .com TLD, and that's nice; it's more appropriate since I'm not running a business. Now I'm just waiting for the DNS changes to propagate.

I have like 5 accounts that I can’t use my personal e-mail for so I’m looking to find a GMail alternative for them to continue my journey to be 100% off Google products.
Does any email provider (paid or free) offer the same level of deliverability, uptime, and have something similar to Google’s Advanced Protection Program (https://landing.google.com/intl/en_us/advancedprotection/)?

@lascapi @alternativeto IMO it's not important that you've got one tool that combines everything.
More important it that it is that flexible so that you can include/access/combine data and other tools as well.
Yes, #Emacs is probably *the* most versatile piece of software there is (and I'm using it since decades).
However, I don't use any of its built-in #email solutions (for reasons) but rather embed emails from my mail client (Evolution) so that I can link mails and open them very easily. That's the true power of advanced tooling, not the "one tool that does all of that".
And I'm aware of the irony of that message, considering the fact that Emacs has the power of including really anything(!) within its borders.
And of course: it's always better when it's FOSS and not closed source in order to minimize #lockin effects (besides proper standardized, open storage formats).
@alternativeto I miss something like that but for every #email account, based on #standards and #opensource !!
I know that #emacs can do it, but it's too much for me!!!
Making a mental note to add #pronouns in any #email signatures from now on.
I admit I didn't think it was a big deal, but neither did I argue if someone used them. Now the #NerdReich (or #TurdReich) is using them as a distraction.
Almost makes me wish I was American, or at least a journalist.
Aside from a copy of all your emails, what else to backup from Gmail before deleting your account?
My plan:
1. Download all email via IMAP
2. Remove all emails including attachments from Gmail interface
3. Closing my account
Anything I'm forgetting?
also, just remember that the #internet itself is #decentralized - #Minecraft's multiplayer is decentralized and various other source engine games, mostly by #valve.
...oh yeah, #email is decentralized, too.
Sorry, I'm not sorry.
I sent my first #email msg through #gmail on Sep 13, 2004. We're more than 20 years later now and it's time to move on.
I registered my own domain this time and I'm looking at alternatives like @fastmail , @Tutanota , @protonprivacy, and @mailfence .
It's good to see that they all have mastodon accounts, although not all of them seem active anymore?
If anyone has another good suggestion then please let me know!
