learned today about Wanderer (https://wanderer.to)
have been thinking for a while about contributing to the fediverse beyond tossing a coin to my instance, and wanderer might just be the thing.
there is only one north american based instance, in PNW. https://wanderer.to/servers
stopped giving money to strava a while ago as they enshittify and ai - ify, but id like to end that relationship completely without losing the fun parts
wanderer: Decentralized trail database: #wanderer by @flomp is a new, #opensource, #decentralized #trail database where you can upload tracks (or import them from #STRAVA or #Komoot), create or share routes, and connect with communities through #ActivityPub-powered #federation.

@FediTips Great initiative, and the app looks promising! I'm considering running an instance. Anyone knows if there's a plan to develop a mobile app to go along?
I really want to run a wanderer server, but I have so much other stuff needs doing first
Today, we’re moving on to a second pre-war Auto Union brand, Wanderer (second logo from bottom on my mug from the Horch museum). Wanderers, like this W24 launched in 1937, alongside Audis, formed Auto Union’s mid-range offering, slotting between the luxury Horch and the more affordable DKWs. Wanderer was not relaunched after the War but its factory in the then East Germany was used to produce the recently featured Barkas van. Pic: Techno Classica 2013
Just released #wanderer v0.17.0 – the first version with full federation support via ActivityPub!
wanderer is a self-hosted platform to manage your hiking, biking, and running trails. Now you can follow users, comment, like, share trails, and more across instances.

Exploring Ebro Delta one of the most important wetland areas in the western Mediterranean.A large part of the delta is protected as the Parc Natural del Delta de l’Ebre, with lagoons, rice fields, and dunes. Home to over 300 bird species, including flamingos, herons, and rare migratory birds is a paradise for birdwatchers. #ebrodelta #cycletouring #cycling #wanderer #exploring #bicycle #bicycletouring #adventurecycling #cyclinglife #cyclingnomads #traveldiaries #biketouringforever #pedalpower #travelstories #travelbybike #bikewander #bikelife #biketouring #fromwhereiride #worldbycyclingù #worldbybike #pedaljourneys #humanpoweredadventures #neverstopexploring #biketocamp #worldbycycling #BikeTooter #biketouring #cyclingspain
A beautiful cycling route built on the old railway line that once connected La Puebla de Híjar with Tortosa.
Via Verde Val de Zafán — the second longest Vía Verde in Spain, stretching 130 km.
Along the way, you’ll cross many scenic viaducts and pass through numerous tunnels.
We camped right next to this beautiful viaduct — a peaceful and quiet night under the stars. #viaverdevaldezafan #cycletouring #cycling #wanderer #exploring #bicycle #bicycletouring #adventurecycling #cyclinglife #cyclingnomads #traveldiaries #biketouringforever #pedalpower #travelstories #travelbybike #bikewander #bikelife #biketouring #fromwhereiride #worldbycyclingù #worldbybike #pedaljourneys #humanpoweredadventures #neverstopexploring #biketocamp #worldbycycling #BikeTooter #biketouring #cyclingspain
