Finally! @leaflet, the venerable lightweight JS tilemap display library, is gearing up for a 2.0.0 release!
It is nice that #NOAA uses @leaflet in their OPUS map page: https://geodesy.noaa.gov/opusmap/
It would be nicer if you update from #leaflet 0.7.5 to something more up to date, like 1.9.4
BTW, are NOAA or NGS in Mastodon? There is a lot of #GIS people here!
Another little #webmapping project with #leaflet (mostly) finished and blogged

I'm not sure if hiking motivates me to poke around with #maps and data more than poking around with maps and data motivates me to go hiking.

Alrighty. Several hours later, and I have Tarrant County's updated early voting locations :D
Overpass-turbo query: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/21qx
Actual location info from county (can match up the numbers on the map to addresses): https://www.tarrantcountytx.gov/content/dam/main/elections/2025/0525/locations/0525_EV_Sched.pdf
And a reddit post in the FortWorth subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/FortWorth/comments/1jorg38/early_voting_locations_for_april_2025/

So far, I only have locations that serve (at least) as early voting centers. There are several more pages of day-of voting centers that I could conceivably add. I'm debating building a small, static, mobile website with #Leaflet to perhaps make a "show me my closest voting station" feature, and maybe a "schedule my voting time" feature that spits out an ical file or something. The opening hours are all there in the OSM data.
(Annoying sidenote: most college/university locations are either early vote only, election day only, or not open at all :()
Seeking recommendations for a #WebMapping tutorial / course?
Slightly at sea on where to start.
- My current JS skill level is _extreme novice_.
- I don't have access to ArcGIS.
- Comfortable with #QGIS [*] and the #python #geospatial ecosystem (#geopandas #xarray #rasterio and plotting with #matplotlib)
Suggestions welcome. TIA.
* I have looked at the qgis2web plugin, but having some issues associated with my aged laptop (2012 mbp running Ubuntu) and a 'Wayland session'.
anyone here good at #leaflet / #openstreetmap ?

#KaiOS #webRTC #leaflet I've made progress on my webRTC chat app for KaiOS. I've created a map component that allows the user to share their location and live location. In the next step I'll enable the sharing of audio messages. I'm still thinking about how I'm going to solve this so that it remains easy to use.
The more I'm thinking about it, the more I consider it.
I want to add a map for my bicycle rides, but I can't find any good PHP maps. The PHP versions of Leaflet on GitHub are no good. They don't work at all. They just gives you errors like "can't load class" or something like that.
So even if I am against it only to challenge myself, I consider using Leaflet in JS for airikr.me/biking.
Or do you have any solution in PHP that works out of the box?

GeoJPG v2 launch on target for March 19 - maybe sooner.
Make your own custom maps, host them for free on Google Drive, view them offline and see your geolocation.
No ads. No tracking. No signup. No cost.
I am developing this as a public service and part of my way to "pay it forward". Plus I am having a blast doing this since - to the best of my knowledge - this is a new approach to offline maps.
Like #maps?
#GeoJPG v2 target release date is March 19, my birthday.
This is a ‘web app’ that displays your own custom maps *offline*. Works on iOS and Android. Features include geolocation. No tracking. No ads. No signup. No cost.
Use GISsurfer screenshot mode to make your own custom maps. Currently maps have to be online so GeoJPG can install them for offline use. Use Google Drive (free) to put your maps online.
Sound interesting? Here is a PDF with some more info.

Screenshots are GISsurfer displaying some georeferenced JPG maps I made using screenshot mode. #Hiking #Maps #Mapping #PWA #Leaflet #OSM #OpenTopoMap
