What's the name for the different kinds of connection type things, like USB and all that.
Are they just called connectors? Like connector types? Or do you call it a physical interface?

Has anyone been able to get Apple’s driving focus to disallow certain app notifications on your Watch? On my iPhone 13, it only seems to allow or block based on person. And in the Watch app, the only focus-related setting is to mirror the iPhone.
I’d like to suppress Ivory notifications on my Watch, but only when actually driving.
¿Sabe alguien si queda alguna instancia de #Lemmy en español?
Hace año y medio estaba ESlemmy, pero desapareció sin más.
Fedi #GNU #Linux community: Do any of you know how to get a Mandinka language keyboard option on Android, ideally to be used in Signal?
The site anythingtranslate.com is so far the only site I've found that can do English to Mandinka translation.
I want to help a friend in the Gambia set up his phone such that he can switch the keyboard from English to Mandinka (the symbols in Mandinka are not in the same alphabet).
I think it's time I ask the fedi hivemind about this...
I am looking for some news outlets about tech and gaming news that avoid politics, don't do clickbait and serve RSS.
I am most interested in both corporate ongoings (so I know what I may need to look out for at work) and noteworthy happenings at major FOSS projects in terms of tech news (but ideally without AI), as well as major game releases and indie projects as well as retro gaming-related news.

On a walk with the dogs last night I'm pretty sure I saw a powerful owl. It was sitting on the ground in a park and then took off up to a tree as we approached. Pretty sure it wasn't a tawny, it was too chonky, its head was much more owl-shaped, and body and wings were light flecked with darker spots. Couldn't get a photo bcs my phone is a potato. Is that likely in inner north #naarm? #birds #Australia #AskFedi

Hello Fediverse, I would like to ask for some recommendations please:
Does a simple and lightweight alternative to google.drive for use on a Win desktop PC exist, based in EU or New Zealand, for upload, update & tracking of shared files?
1) To update files with unchanged public link
2) To see if and when the file was opened through the external link either for reading or for download, to count the uses
Many thanks ^.^
@AncTreat5358 #AskFedi might be another good hashtag to add! Good luck with your hearing aid decision.
#askfedi So we're going out later today to pick up a used #steamdeck through a marketplace website. Anything we should look out for in terms of damage?

I am right now using @OrganicMaps because it's the only navigation app I have tried that loads the map almost instantly, doesn't lag, and has great support for on-foot and bicycle routing.
But the navigation options are very minimal (avoid unpaved roads, motorways, tolls etc). I'd like more options like detailed in the post above. Or being able to just press a button while on the bicycle to be navigated to the closest bike parking in one click.

Does anyone know an #OpenStreetMap navigation app that actually is able to take advantage of all the cool information I am adding to #StreetComplete?
Like, I want to press a button that leads me to benches with back rests only. I want a nav option that prefers roofed/sheltered bicycle parking and bus stops whenever it's raining. I want to be able to set that I want to be navigated through well lit paths only. I want to prefer small paths over roads on foot. And so on.
#askfedi Kjenner eg nokon som kan #finsk? Eg lurer på kva Pentti Rasinkangas syng saman med JPP i songen "Vincent van Gogh". Det er ein bra song.
Do I know anyone who knows #Finnish? I'd like to know what Pentti Rasinkangas sings with the string band JPP in the song "Vincent van Gogh". It's a good song.
I have hearing aids in my near-term future to help with my APD (auditory processing disorder). My audiologist highly recommends the Oticon Intent 1's. Anyone have experience with these that you can share?
I'm going to be spending a lot of money to get them, so I want to make sure there are no glaring issues with them.
Thanks!
my adventures in #selfhosting - day 92
My self-hosted #Ghost blog is almost ready for its debut. I have successfully re-imported all the media and fixed internal hyperlinks. Yay! (It looks and feels exactly like the old one, so most people won't notice a difference I think).
My current - soon to be former - Ghost blog (https://blog.elenarossini.com) which runs on a Ghost (Pro) plan will be active for another month... but I will stop payments in mid-April and thus my blog will be deleted immediately by Ghost.
I need your advice about something: is there a way to redirect traffic from subdomain1 [dot] elenarossini.com to subdomain2 [dot] elenarossini.com? With a wildcard maybe, so that all traffic to posts with a URL associated to subdomain1 are redirected to the new subdomain? Aside from the subdomain, the rest of the URL is identical.
And no, I don't want to tweak my self-hosted Ghost installation to use the old subdomain name. I prefer the new one for several reasons.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! (Apologies if I had asked this before, but I tried some techniques with another blog and I wasn't successful).
Thanks!
@tulsa I have some old books that are library editions. They were never sold as hardback versions but my library copies are hardback and have a sticker on the inside that lists them as "Bound to Stay Books" outside of Jacksonville, Illinois.
It seems like they took soft cover books all over the country and rebound them as hardbacks for libraries so they would be more durable.
As for places local to Tulsa though I have no idea unfortunately.
Are men’s “hot flashes” really a thing?
I’m 54. When I take a shower, or eat, or even think about anything physically active, I sweat like crazy within moments, usually on my back and neck plus the usual places. This is to the point where I often need to change t-shirts within about 5-10 minutes. I usually have to be in t-shirts without a jacket, unless it’s around freezing outside. Inside in my upstairs home office, I need the window open most of the time.
Been experiencing this most noticeable the last 2-3 years.
Not sure if it’s age, fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, something else, or a combination of things.
Remember the cool (fractal?) visualisations that the old Winamp used to generate?
I want to produce exactly that style for videos to go with my music, so there's something interesting and attractive to watch if I put my music on 'tubes' of whatever flavour.
It needs to be EASY to do as there's only a very small part of Nige's grey matter left to be assigned to doing it!

#chemistry #teachers of the fediverse:
At risk of asking such a general question that replies aren't helpful, but do you tend to do labs after instruction (here's the thing in practice) or before formal instruction (here's a thing to explore)?
I have a group who just wants worksheets and notes. I cannot get them to engage in any kind of hands on. They wait for answers or just don't do anything. Feeling kind of lost because I'm working WAY too hard right now.
#question to the solo devs: When have you determined that you are a senior software developer?
My last job as an employee ended around autumn 2020. I've been working solo since. I firmly believe, if you develop the skillset and experience, it doesn't matter whether you reached this in a solo environment or team environment.
What's your stance on that subject?
