The pattern for this beauty is called "Dandelion Lane" and the yarn I used reminded me of a Dandelion growing out of a street. Amazing little resilient plants! Also - the shawl has Glitter. Most things are better with Glitter.

Pattern: Dandelion Lane by Grassharp
Yarn: Hobbii Twister Glitter from a Second Choice Bag.

About three years ago I took on the adventure "Elf Coat". It was my first Tunisian Crochet Project and what a learning it has been. The pattern and the resources available from the designer are wonderful and I learned so much from her! The following observations are related to my specific project alone.

- Don't use acrylic yarn for a garment. The static when peeling this coat off is unreal.
- Don't forget gravity: I'm plus size = more yarn = heavier garment = the whole thing stretches when worn. I wanted it to be at my knees, it grew down to my shins.
- Did I mention the static? Seriously, I think that surprised me the most.
- Tunisian Crochet is not my cup of tea. But I'm happy I tried it out.
- Making a garment as a plus size person sucks, unless the garment was specifically designed for plus size.

This is a more recent project, finished last December; therefore the slightly crappy lighting. It's super flowy and delicate, made with lace-weight yarn. And it has glitter! Swipe to the close-up to actually see some of the sparkles.

Happy #caturday ! Lewis likes to help with my projects, especially if they are soft.
This cowl/hood combination sounded like a great idea and it was really pretty... but it did not suit me at all. I looked so ridiculous in it that I could only let BB-8 model it. Seriously, I looked like a Jawa. But hey, practice and all that, so all was fine and had its purpose. :-)

Oh, I almost forgot about this beauty! I used 2 Yarncakes and alternated them; I ended up using about 1824 m yarn. It's a pattern by a polish designer, essentially it's just charts and I was so proud that I managed to make it. Being able to read crochet charts opens up a whole new world beyond language barriers. I love it.

#throwback to the first test crochet I did. I love the little clouds in the design and the pastel colors of the yarn.
Bonus picture of how I block most of my shawls - I stretch them pinned with clothespins on the catnet on my balcony... That day the sky was even matching the shawl.

Forgot to take progress pictures for #wipwednesday , that's why you get a crappy 5am-before-leaving-for-work picture.
This pattern is a pure variation of SC stitches. I can't work too long on it because quite honestly, SC stitches bore me, that's why I am normally drawn to the complex lacy patterns. Nevertheless... the braiding for this one is very cleverly constructed. I'm using my Cthulu Advent 2024 Krakenyarns handdyed yarn and it's really wonderful.

Sometimes I make things because I'm intruiged with the construction. Like this sleeved shawl. I thought it might be a really cool accessory for those chilly office days. Well... Unfortunately, a sleeved shawl works not for me. It feels a bit like a straight jacket and gives me T-Rex Arms.
Ah well, it was totally worth a try.

I told you I temporarily became a mad hatter when I discovered making my own strawhats. :D Here I used a chiffon cloth as a hatband - it's actually a juggling cloth usually used by kids to learn juggling. :-)
This hat was claimed by my aunt for gardening, and I'm glad it has a good home with her.
What is interesting here is that I used a slightly different paper yarn. Most Raffia will be broad and flat, but some are rolled and round and more yarn-like. See second picture for a direct comparison. This will in the end have an impact on your gauge and the size of your project, so it's a good thing to know.

Before we dive into more hats, let's do #wipwednesday . I have a few WIPs going, but I'm rather intruiged with that one. LOTS of bobbles in many variations, so much structure. It's going to be spectacular. :-)

Did you know that you can crochet your own Strawhat with Raffia? Raffia is a Paperyarn and while a hat made from it won't survive a bath, it is otherwise really quite durable. I made the hat in the picture in 2023 and it was my almost daily companion during the past two summers and will be again this summer. It can totally be squished into a bag and pulled out when needed.

The first picture with the red ribbon most definitely gives me One Piece Ruffy vibes. :D I ended up exchanging the ribbon for an old chiffon scarf (see second picture). I will share some other, colorful versions later this week. When I discovered Paperyarns in other colors, I temporarily became a mad hatter... :D

Here's another pattern I made several times from when I was a beginner to more advanced. It was also the first pattern I actually bought. In the beginning it was important to me that the patterns I used were free, as I really needed to learn and get a feeling for them. Nowadays I'm happy to pay for a well written pattern or chart. (in fact, I prefer charts now) In any case, this one being the first pattern I bought holds a special place in my heart and I should really make it again. :-)
The second picture shows a close up of the intricate pattern.
