…#EmilBove also faced sharp questions about his ordering the dismissal of #EricAdams’ corruption case, which led to the resignation of a top prosecutor in New York & several other #DOJ officials. #DanielleSassoon, then-interim #USattorney for the #SDNY, cited her objections to what she called a political “#QuidProQuo” with Adams’ legal team for the mayor to enforce #Trump’s #immigration policies only if he was freed from the looming prosecution.

If confirmed by the #Senate, #EmilBove will serve on the #3rdCircuit Court of Appeals, which hears cases from Delaware, New Jersey & Pennsylvania.

#EmilBove, a fmr #criminal defense attorney for #Trump, has been at the forefront of some of the most contentious #DOJ actions since Trump’s return to the WH, including the dismissal of the #corruption case against #NYC Mayor #EricAdams. He also accused FBI ofcls of “insubordination” for refusing to hand over names of agents who investigated the #insurrection & ordered the firings of a group of prosecutors involved in the #Jan6 criminal cases.

“I have never advised a Department of Justice attorney to violate a court order,” #EmilBove told the #Senate #Judiciary Cmte. He added, “I don’t think there’s any validity to the suggestion that that #whistleblower complaint filed yesterday calls into question my qualifications to serve as a circuit #judge.”

#EmilBove’s nomination for the #3rdCircuit Court of Appeals has come under intense scrutiny after a fired #DOJ lawyer claimed in a complaint filed Tuesday that Bove used an expletive when he said during a meeting that the #Trump admin might need to ignore #judicial commands. Bove pushed back against suggestions from #Democrats that the #whistleblower’s claims make him #unfit for the federal bench.

The backlog has alarmed career ofcls who warn it could amount to illegal impoundment of funds.

Major #funding agencies including the #NIH & the National #Science Foundation [#NSF] have been mired in #dysfunction that has slowed the routine work of awarding new #grants & sending billions in funding, appropriated by #Congress, to researchers & projects across the country.

In one example, the U.S. #DOGE Service has failed to post dozens of planned funding opportunities since it took control of a key federal grants website in April, according to two people familiar with the process. Agencies were previously able to post Notices of #Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) directly to Grants.gov, but DOGE now requires them to submit through a centralized mailbox it controls.

At the #GSA, which manages federal #RealEstate, the #Trump admin is trying to cut costs by rejecting many agencies’ requests for facilities #repairs paid for by those agencies. In some instances, ofcls say it’s unclear whether the #budget #law has been violated already or is merely on track to be breached — but the rejections have provoked internal alarm about their legality either way.

Interviews w/ #FederalWorkers show that a wide spectrum of govt #spending has already been stalled. Major #scientific #research #grants have already been terminated without public notice in recent weeks. At one #FederalAgency, staff were told — via a directive that took effect on a Sunday — that almost all contracts over $250k no longer could be signed.
