@solarisfire then it's your choice that it's not enshittified enough and worth the pain to suffer through, cuz better options like #Mumble & #IRC predate #discord and don't do that shite...

@debby #Mumble, #IRC, #XMPP (+OMEMO = @gajim / #monoclesChat) & #Linphone (#SIP / #VoIP) are the better options. #NextcloudTalk also exist and @monocles as well as @Stuxhost offer that.
#Signal and #Session are #proprietary, #centralized, #SingleVendor & #SingleProvider solutions!
And #Matrix is just a shittier #XMPP+#OMEMO. Give @delta / #DeltaChat a try instead.
OfC #JitsiMeet and #WebCall are also great!

@fuchsiii @puppygirlhornypost2 @kopper granted, #TechIlliterates & #Consoomers are just a bad standard to begin with and aligning with the bottom barrel is always gonna lower one's standard.
People need to realize there's not one perfect app.
The former are #IRC, #XMPP+#OMEMO, #WebCall, #OnionShare, #Linphome, #Mumble, …
The latter one are #MicrosoftTeams, #Discrord, #QQ, #WeChat, #iMessage, #Signal, #Matrix, …
@emma@shrimp.emmabyte.de @forse@kolektiva.social @xgranade@wandering.shop #TeamSpeak is proprietary, so I wouldn't consider that a viable alternative. #Revolt is free software and self-hostable, but last time I checked the setup you get by following their documentation does not include working voice. I hope they will fix this in the near future.
#Mumble has served me and my friends since before #Discord was made, and is likely to outlive it, just as it has outlived many other voice chats before it. It also comes with far superior mic and sound controls, to better filter out background noise. I've not seen any web-based voice chat service handle this well, if at all.
#discord IS LITERALLY THE PROBLEM!
It's worse than any #IRC, #Mumble or even the old #TeamSpeak & #Skype for that matter.
It combines the disadvantages of #Forum, #paywalled #documentation, #chat and #voicechat with 0 redeeming qualities (unlike #Zulip & Mumble & #XMPP+#OMEMO) it's just an #InformationBlackhole!
I'm shure fecking #dread has better moderation and I'd rather use #MicrosoftTeams + #Slack cuz those at least have proper #moderation tools.
Case in point: I'd rather #SelfHost all my comms infrastructure than to ever use something like Discord or any other #GDPR-violating SaaS that is just enshittification.
I'd rather recommend people to instead choose a tool that does everything but horrible to go with multiple smaller & good tools
Check @alternativeto and @european_alternatives for options.
@dragonfriend not really.
My recommendation is to #SelfHost #Mumble or go to an #IRC instead...
@herrorange Already existing options do that better than the old #SILK codec.
@leguinian_utopia seriously, people pay for #MicrosoftTeams.when that shit is flakier than the first versions of #JitsiMeet, #Mumble & #WebCall together?
@ellyxir @stevestreza basically #TeamSpeak but without #Enshittification and #FLOSS but also more cooler features, like spacial audio occrected for the relative position ingame...
@stevestreza #discord is bad and it enshittifies faster...
@stacksmashing @siguza what if I told you both suck compred to #Mumble, #JitsiMeet and #NextcloudTalk?
The #Mumble service hosted on this domain has finally moved.
psjb.me -> mumble.psjb.xyz
@3kh0 or people.could just properly #decentralize and use #IRC, #XMPP+#OMEMO & #Mumble as well as #SelfHosting.
@froge @methuselah @ansuz point is for every use case there are good #OpenSource & #SelfHosting - capable solutions:
Organization-internal Group chat? @zulip !
(Or XMPP Gtoup Chats or @delta )
1:1 private Messaging: #XMPP+#OMEMO!
(or #Zulip or #DeltaChat)
Group Voice Chat? #Mumble!
(Or #JitsiMeet)
Group Videocalling? Jitsi Meet!
1:1 Videocalling? #WebCall!
(Or #H232 over #VoIP or Jitsi Meet)
Collaboration? @nextcloud
FileHosting? #nextcloud
(Or #oshi.at of #FTP(S) or #HTTPS(S) or #BitTorrent or #IPFS)
...
There are options.
Most people just refuse to take them...

@popey Anybody still use #Mumble in the #GNU + #Linux community? #FreeSoftware #SoftwareLibre
