@lastquake Would be nice if you can give that info on #XMPP.

Hi, sorry for the late answer, I was not available this week.
First congrats for your work @barbapulpe ! It's always nice to see new XMPP related project.
The Libervia AP gateway work at the protocol level, it's not a Mastodon client, it's an ActivityPub implementation, and is indeed a component.
However, it's not complicated at all for the end-user, what make you think that? Quite the opposite, it's made to act as transparently as possible.
Great to have multiple #XMPP <-->
#ActivityPub approaches maturing side by side. If your bridge solution is open source, you may PR an entry on the #delightful fediverse experience curated list.

How does your implementation of #XMPP ⇔ #ActivityPub differentiate from the #Libervia one by @Goffi? Just curiuos, thanks!
70 boosts, 53 favorites: by far my most enjoyed post on Mastodon since I started!
I guess bridging XMPP instant messaging with the Fediverse is a topic of interest. I undertook it to try and promote free ethical alternatives to the Giga corps.
Try it out! I will open-source it in the coming weeks.
My three reasons not to use Signal:
1. It only runs on Android/iOS, which I don't (want to) have. Even their desktop client needs an Android/iOS device!
2. It runs and depends on AWS. I.e. DJT could ask his buddy Jeff B. to switch it off. As #EU citizen, I prefer a local server.
3. They want a phone number to register. This makes multipe accounts for different purposes practically impossible.
Fortunately, there's #Jabber — since 1999!
Wait, so Matrix is broken? https://matrix.org/blog/2025/07/security-predisclosure/
Well, not really news to me. I've recently had admin rights by accident.
Yup.
I shouldn't have been admin. It just glitched me the rights.
And somehow I've even been unable to give them up voluntarily....
And now they want to update the entire #Matrix network at once (!).
They should've consulted other protocols writing the spec... I doubt other protocols like #XMPP (or whatever else is out there) ever had something like this happen.
@FandaSin nodds in agreeement
I also think that this is kinda #MissedOpportunity for #IndieDevs and #SmallDevelopers: https://infosec.space/@kkarhan/114862673291987165
I'm not even entertaining the fantasy that this is gonna be done in the Form of some #FLOSS because obviously rapid #API changes at random are far more expensive to deal with than say old, quite static protocols where the minimalist implementation of #IRC or #XMPP has been done dozens of times and where specs detail anything extra and where things like #OMEMO take years to get #downstream'd...
One thing that really pisses me off personally is the #regression in terms of #Messenger #Apps.
My personal distaste and dislike for #proprietary, #SingleVendor & #SingleProvider #services like #Signal ¹, #Telegram, #Discord ², #WhatsApp ³, #Slack, #MicrosoftTeams, etc. aside:
WHY is there no #CrossProvider #Messenger to handle that shite?
WHY does everyone of these shitty providers think people want to download their #bloated #WebApp that takes up triple digit Megabytes if not entire Gigabytes and will gobble up all the #RAM and #CPU each of them can??
This problem ain't new and already got solved for corporate social media ages ago! (Not to mention actually good messengers!)
I mean API 0
- style access because obviously none of the platforms will allow, endorse or support such an endeavour and actively fight the developers and users !
So yeah, consider this a call for a @gajim / #Gajim or @pidgin / #Pidgin for garbage platforms!

Launch of the XMPP / Fediverse Bridge!
You've been waiting for it, here it is: from now on you'll be able to chat directly between Fediverse and XMPP instant messaging! All from your usual account and application, without changing a thing.
So how does it work? Very simply, two twin robot accounts will be responsible for passing your messages to the other world.
So from Mastodon: your contact is @xmpp_bridge, who you can follow to sign up, then send and receive messages from XMPP.
Each time you send a message, you do as you would for any private message: mention the robot account from Mastodon or send a private message from an application such as Pixelfed or Friendica, for example.
Address your XMPP recipient(s) in your message with the prefix xmpp: followed by their address (without spaces). You can reply directly to any message you receive.
You can also manage your block lists to prevent spam, and you can report any abuse to your administrator.
Not interested? Don't worry, you won't receive anything until you register.
Get started! Obviously, this is only of interest if you know XMPP contacts (and vice versa). But it's also an opportunity to try out and promote instant messaging.
Test it out and report any bugs or useful comments to me, so that I can improve the service.
I hope you enjoy this new service, which is fairly exclusive but open to everyone!
Please boost to spread the good word in the Universe.

@november I use #XMPP as my sole chat and call medium, and find it pretty good. (I don’t use centralized/proprietary/unsustainable/NIH services like #WhatsApp, #Telegram, #Discord, #Signal, #Threema, #Matrix, etc)
It’s often the case that people with the worst impression of XMPP used it ages ago, and did so with some terrible clients (Pidgin, Thunderbird)…
I’ve written a guide that helps new users stick to the best clients and servers of the ecosystem, and avoid the underdeveloped parts. Perhaps it could help you?
The Quick and Easy Guide to Jabber/XMPP
(Either way, I’d love to hear about recent experiences and pain points in using XMPP. I don’t doubt there’s a lot to be improved.)
Today is a GREAT day to begin your #selfhosting journey, if you haven't already!
Tired of paying billionaires to make life on earth worse for everyone, in exchange for a few trinkets and a load of hostility?
You can replace:
- #spotify -> #navidrome
- #youtube -> #peertube
- #netflix etc -> #jellyfin
- #gsuite -> #nextcloud
- #google #bing etc -> #SearxNG
- #whatsapp etc -> #xmpp
- and so much more!
Any steps you take to reduce your interactions with
#Matrix spent a decade turning the problem of worrying about which extensions your server supports into worrying about which room version your server supports.
Meanwhile, the #XMPP community got their act together, reached a rough consensus on which extensions are worth pursuing, and now you can install any of the four major servers without having to worry about what extensions are working behind the scenes.
The #Conversations_im release that was rejected yesterday is now live on the Google Play beta channel.
A late addition to the 2.19.0-beta release is message moderation for public channels, giving moderators the ability to delete spam messages.
Estado del servidor XMPP: 100% de cumplimiento según prueba de conversations (https://compliance.conversations.im).
Además tiene webchat habilitado y bridge para whatsapp.
Y'all messin' with #xmpp?
