@ormand.bsky.social We've been all #Linux since #Ubuntu 6.06, and always on #computers schools I worked at were ditching. Essentially free computing here since 2006...

I loved the "#GendBuntu" rollout. The article says #RedHat appears to be a choice for Europe. Strange, as anything American-based would seem to have similar privacy and data security concerns. They make a good case for the France-based #Mint (which I use too!).

Have you tried winehq.org/

Everything is #gravy baby.
#LABR playing live. #Mastodon feed is scrolling by.
Linux #Mint is good for this old laptop. Nice and snappy too. Much better than the Windows 10 it had installed, that Microsoft is going end support for this year.

I was shocked to see how few people know of #OpenTyrian for Linux, one of the best ports! It's free on the Ubuntu repos. After installation, run 'game-data-packager tyrian' on a terminal, and it will create a .deb file for you on your home folder. Install the deb, and you'll have all the game data available for the game to work properly. Very enjoyable game!

Running here on my Linux Mint.

I got yet another Mac. It's a Macbook Air 13" from 2012, got it for $120. I love these old Intel Macs. Obviously the old MacOS was deleted to make space for an updated Linux Mint. Everything worked great, except the b43 wifi driver, which made the laptop not to wake up from sleep. I blacklisted 2-3 drivers it was pulling along with it, and I now use a tiny wifi dongle with great success. Overall, very happy.

I grow #ThaiMint & #VietnameseCoriander out of one of two repurposed bathtubs that I use for #gardening purposes.
Vietnamese coriander isn't a true coriander. It's actually an #edible #knotweed. Never put these into the ground if you don't want it to spread. I grow all of ours in containers. I have 2 large grow bags with lots of them growing. I grow lots of both of these plants because we use them in/with our Asian foods often.

I keep switching my #desktop #distro. Right now I am on #nobara, but I know my way around #debian-based ones much better. Also, more software is provided in .deb.

But I want #KDE, which is not widespread in the debianverse. At least not among the distros recommended for #gaming.
Couldn't get debian itself to run (well), don't want snaps so no #kubuntu, ran into update issues with #mint-with-kde... finally I was pointed int he direction of #tuxedoOS, and it felt a bit... box-y on my laptop. And it had no bigger UI size on the big monitor, only all at once.
So I let it rest for a bit until I stumbled over another deb-only package. Now I'm back to #dualboot, this time nobara/tuxedo. At some point, I _will_ find my distro. 😅

I never had these issues with #windows. There, I had to take it as it was. Was it better? Hell no. I enjoy being spoiled for choice. (And also not being surveilled.)

I'm putting together a persistent USB installation of Linux Mint for a friend who wants to switch to Linux. It has both a tweaked Cinnamon in it, and an XFce that looks like MacOSX. Lots of apps & games pre-installed too. He'll love it, I'm sure.

Switching people to Linux, one by one.
