@drscriptt Naive question: WHEN does the average #Internet #user ever open up a webpage with an #IP address instead of a #domain or even #FQDN?
- Seriously, the only cases I saw were either some old, non-public - facing server in some B2B/API setting or a test that #httpd / #ngnix / #ssh / … function properly on like a #VPS and that the #DNS hasn't been updated (yet!) to include said host / FQDN in the records, and even then it's bad cuz you'd rather want to use it's FQDN instead because with #IPv4 shortages on one hand and tools like #Portainer on the other, one should not use an #IPaddress as addressing method because #WAF / #Proxies used to "#MUX" / "#NAT" services under one IP address or #IPv6 block may need that distinction by being queried for a specific FQDN...
The Idea if !SSL / #TLD for #IPaddresses makes me feel like Jeff Goldblum!

@delta also #deltaChat natively supports #Proxies, #VPN|s and @torproject / #Tor so not only can people use it that way but also use any other bypass method.
- Obviously, the classic #Sneakernet with people doing
uucpwith foreign mobile networks near borders works just as well...
I'd not be surprised if delta Chat is also used by #RimjinGang* and #38North** for a "contactless sneakernet" tho I am convinced they won't confirm or deny that for #OpSec, #InfoSec & #ComSec reasons alone...
- I mean, both #Iran and #NorthKorea ain't #Iraq and #Syria where one could just take a phat satellite dish, strap an LTE stick or even external antennas on and just point it at turkish or lebanese radio towers near the border, as owning any satellite equipment in these places is a guarantee to get publicly executed for "espionage"...

@torproject And yes, I do need some with the ability to filter as contacts in #Russia that want to #flee basically have no other option than #Tor as #Roskomnadnozr systematically bricks #VPN's and #Proxies and only allows like #Webtunnel and #SSH connections [the latter one propably for Russia's #CyberWarfare] to pass through.
So even if they had like #GMail or #RiseUp that wouldn't fix their issues nor would it solve that need.
