The culling of #GSA’s #18F in particular, a specialized #digital services agency tasked w/improving #user experience w/govt services & helping #FederalAgencies build & buy a variety of #tech, has crippled programs that silently but effectively prepared Americans for #weather #disasters or streamlined tasks, like renewing a #passport or filing #taxes. Over the wknd, ~90 technologists at 18F were fired via surprise email that went out shortly before 1AM ET on Sat morning.

#fediverse, #verzeichnis, #people, #directory, #fedikarte, #user, #usersuche, #vernetzt, #vernetzung, #neuhier, #fediserve, , #mastodir, #gemeinsamstatteinsam

In case the #SupremeCourt accepts the interdiction of #TikTok in the #USA because of the #risk that #China might covertly use it to manipulate the content shown to #Americans or collect #user #data to achieve its #geopolitical aims,it should be discussed in other #countries ,such as the #EU member #states , #Canada , #Japan ,if they should follow suit, and possibly extend the measure to #ElonMusk 's #X ,as this #socialnetwork now also clearly threatens their national security in a similar way.

@alexskunz Custom settings, depending on the camera. e.g. 'd7'."On" continues file numbering from the last numbered file. "Off" resets the number to 0001 each time a new card or new folder is inserted or created. => Then: Create a new folder. You can set it to a specific number between 0001 and 9999 by placing a file in the current shooting folder with a number one less than you wish to start at. @jupiter_rowland OFC this is also due to the fact that the last 50+ years no serious attempt at teaching #TechLiteracy has been done anywhere in a formal matter.

Luckily #Education and #Knowledge isn't monopolized and Initiatives like @cryptoparty / #CryptoParty exist that basically get #TechIlliterates to a level that if they follow up what has been trained don't act as "#UnofficialEmployees" of #NSAbook et. al.

Either way, we'll all have to take part in making the world better, even if that meremy means not contribute to #Enshittification...

OFC that is a constant struggle.

  • Needless to say all #Fediverse Software like #Mastodon actually tells people: 'Hey, #DMs are not private nor encrypted beyond #SSL - #Admins can read them if they actually want to!'

@DeltaWye @SynAck @Kuniti_shino @ErikUden OFC that's the nature of most services tht are open t new users.

  • #Abuse being a statistical inevitability:

#Shitter (rather #Teitter before #Mus ruined it!) had #API #RateLimiting to make #Spamming less effective (255 Statuses per 24hrs) even back when #TweetDeck was a seperate company...

  • Making dynamical limits that instantly lockout i.e. brand new accounts sending the same.message to 10+ others as a DM within 48 hours of registration should act as a speed-bump to #Spammers.

It won't prevent it entirely but make it more cumbersome.

This prevents remediation and correction of #banlists & #blocklists, leaving a lot if domains burned forever as the only.options are "replace" and "merge" and the average #ActivityPub admin or even #User isn't going to learn or setup a #git!

  • which is frustrating as I maintain multiple blocklists to help cleaning up the mess.

I.e. there isn't really a good way to combat #Typosquatting-based #Phishing beyond banning.offending domains...

Pitch Besides manually adding a CSV file for blocks under /settings/imports , the option to automatically pull and update / overwrite blocklists would be greatly appreciated. This could also provid...

Hey, #Americans ...

What the hell is up with your #NOAA and its website? Went to look at information on #hurricane #Milton, here:
nhc.noaa.gov/graphics_at4.shtm

The whole damn report is an #image, including all of the #words. There's no way for a #blind #user to get the warning from this page - there's no alt-text, no repeat of the report contents as actual HTML text below it, nothing.

Is your government's official position "blind people don't need hurricane info"? If so, why?

@caoimhin @darth I explicitly disagree on that specific point because if #Jolla really wanted to be better then they'd at least have to provide absolute basics EVERY SINGLE #Android device I've ever seen has!

  • Okay, not every device, but a Mil-Spec'd phone - designed to be used in explosive atmosphere, being thrown int pressurized tank filled with solvent and survive a prison riot after that ( from a spechalist manufacturer who mostly caters to industrial plants, hospitals and corretional facilities and doesn't sell these devices to consumers evern if you go "#ShutUpAndTakeMyMoney!" on them ) isn't a fair comparison, but you should get the point!

#RightToRepair means that the #vendor doesn't actively inhibit #repairs or #paywalls them.

  • I can understand if Jolla doesn't service said devices anymore, but then they should relinquish the tools so legitimate owners can at least use their paid - for devices.

I mean, if I wanted to be downgraded into a "#User & #Consumer without #Rights" I'd buy an #iPhone or #Kindle "#Kids" device...
