#monitoring

I hit this issue on a client and it's a brutal situation to be in. It's like your application hitting a brick wall.

When your primary key runs out of integers to assign. Because, by default, a database like MySQL uses signed int32 for primary keys.

Does anyone monitor for this condition? If so, how? Do any mainstream RDBMS systems default to unsigned int64 for primary keys?

trop.in and services on all related subdomains are down (except email, email is ok). The VPS/ISP provider migrating their infrastructure to the new location, and facing some unexpected issues, so it may take a couple of days.

I guess I need some lightweight #monitoring solution to get notified automatically next time :) Any thoughts?

Many thanks to @AuthorsAlliance for launching this form to collect author experiences under the new federal #OpenAccess policies, including the #NIH policy.

"We are particularly interested in learning about:
* Challenges with #publishers whose policies may disallow their uploading of articles to agency-designated #repositories;
* Common questions or points of confusion expressed by grantees;
* Confusion or questions about agency guidance;
* Other technical, legal, or practical barriers to depositing articles."

Note to #librarians: When you encounter authors facing any kind of problem with a fed OA policy (understanding, compliance, publishing), please refer them to this form. The more we document the problems, the more we can facilitate solutions.

I've just committed a new manual page to #FreeBSD: tracing(7), an introduction to #tracing and #performance #monitoring facilities.

It'll take a moment before it is available for readers on man.freebsd.org, so for the time being you can grab a copy from here (cgit.freebsd.org/src/plain/sha) and open it with man(1).

[I have long been fascinated by this ‘accidental waterbody’, from its creation all the way through the extreme pollution issues as it evaporates – and the lithium under it – a heck of a history, culturally, demographically, hydrologically, contaminants, public health, agriculturally and so much more…]
