Okay #LibreOffice users, what does it mean to change the "theme" of a document or presentation? I've tried this in LibreOffice Impress, but nothing is different. Not the color scheme, not the font.....

An excellent but brief overview of the history of ODF. Well worth watching if you're interested in #freesoftware but unfamiliar with with this bit of history.
"A silent war has shaped the digital world: ODF vs OOXML. From the rise of OpenOffice.org and #LibreOffice to Microsoft’s controversial standardization of OOXML, this video tells the untold story of control, freedom, and the future of digital documents."
I hadn’t mentioned that I updated #libreoffice for #slackwareaarch64 to the latest 25.8.0.4 release yesterday. I went to build 25.8.0.3 and it was gone, replaced with a shiny new release. So you get this one instead! https://slackware.lngn.net/
New features, code cleanups, dialog box refinements – lots happening in #LibreOffice development! Here's what we did in July: https://qa.blog.documentfoundation.org/2025/08/11/qa-dev-report-july-2025/
this is a valid discussion no matter which corner of the digital universe we focus on, but priorities are terribly important:
what matters now is not whether goverments fund tools they use (or could use) like #drupal, #nextcloud, #libreoffice, #fediverse servers and so much else
Total control of mobile devices is the Death Star of the Evil Empire.
The equivalent of funding roads, schools and hospitals is an #opensource mobile OS as a universal right for every single citizen.
Debian 13 update:
The new LibreOffice packages did solve one of my Bookwoom bugs -- I wasn't able to open encrypted files created in newer LO on Fedora.
In Trixie LO it's no problem.
@demerara@social.vivaldi.net @Waitnwallflower@beige.party OK, so I don't have the reference CSS template sorted yet, and for some reason I can't get Sigil to work on Gentoo, there's some obscure EGL initialization failure that has the entire Libera Gentoo channel baffled. But I can do the exports on my Win10 box, and .... OMG the EPUB3 generation is SO MUCH CLEANER than pandoc, let alone the flaming dumpster fire that LibreOffice generates using libepubgen.
My dude, I owe you a solid. I'm totally giving you an acknowledgment in my next book. Let me know how you'd like to be credited.
HEY #LibreOffice guys? You might want to ditch libepubgen entirely and talk to Doitsu about making Writer2xhtml the new OFFICIAL STANDARD EPUB/XHTML export mechanism of LibreOffice. It is so much better I can hardly even begin to explain.
Trying to improve my #ebook #publishing #workflow.
I write in #LibreOffice. The big bête noire is the conversion from ODT to EPUB3, of which LibreOffice (or rather, libepubgen) does an utterly godawful job, which will likely never be fixed because libepubgen is a piece of v0.1.1 beta-quality-at-best abandonware. It WORKS, but it generates utterly hideous XHTML that is so opaque it is not in any meaningful sense editable after the fact. It's barely even readable.
There is a document conversion tool called pandoc that can convert ODT to EPUB3. But its ODT reader module is broken, so I have to cross-save to DOCX first, which introduces errors and issues of its own. And pandoc does bizarrely inscrutable things to document structure that need a lot of manual repair, if the source document doesn't match its structural expectations.
There exists a plugin for Sigil that imports ODT to EPUB3 in a direct step. This offers a lot of promise — IF I can get Sigil working on my Linux box. There seems to be an egl/OpenGL problem that I'm having trouble tracking down...
So many more organizations need to take back control of their own offices. It's better for the planet.

@PCsfueralle Ich würde einfach garnicht #Windows / #microsoft365 deployen & nutzen sondern konsequent auf ressourcenschonendere und sichere Alternativen setzen.
@ubuntu / #UbuntuLTS ist recht Einsteigerfreundlich und kommt mit @libreoffice / #LibreOffice als Vorinstallation.
I successfully managed to install #libreoffice. In German! Fuck yeah!!! :-D ...
It's not that hard to get used to Linux. Especially when coming from #apple #macos. I am an absolute newbie when it comes to Linux, and I have chosen a not-so-easy Linux distribution. But oh boy, is CachyOS quick! ...
LibreOffice proves you can truly break free from Microsoft's "artificially complex" ecosystem

Uff da.
BLURSDAY.
Writing like heck. Dealing with legal issues. Spent all of yesterday manually restructuring and reformatting an EPUB novella (which is currently on a free-book promotion starting tomorrow) that I needed to add a section to, because #LibreOffice's EPUB export is so godawful (or more accurately, libepubgen generates such godawful EPUBs) that they're not in any meaningful sense editable after generation WITHOUT completely rebuilding them almost from the ground up.
I'm working on a novel and a short story collection, interleaved, as parts occur to me on each. A minor side character in Fireborn, an accident-prone mason, turns out to have a deeper than expected back-story. I've spent all of today writing his story. (He has a name, now; he is now Niklas.)
I lost track of which day it was. Thought it was still Friday, not Saturday. Almost forgot to wish @Waitnwallflower@beige.party a happy birthday.
BLURSDAY. IT'S ALL BLURSDAY.
I've had this image buzzing in my head for weeks. I'm obviously not a graphic designer, but made a rough draft myself with #LibreOffice Draw.
It's for a #fiction I #amWriting, about a professional troll who lost his job to AI, shortly after helping the Ideology come to power through the use of psychological manipulation. Chaos ensues as the world tumbles toward a near-future #cyberpunk #dystopia.
(P.S. looking for a #graphicdesign pro and a couple beta readers for this project)
Thanks to #planned_obsolescence the number of #linux users has just grown - replaced win10 on my aunt's laptop with #LinuxMint, after she had many problems with it's speed and reliability.
So far she's been more than happy with her "new" laptop and #LibreOffice. Let's hope for an even bigger growth of the community in the coming weeks/months!

LibreOffice Writer has been very slow for me, another reason I didn't like it (I have several). But I found an amazingly simple fix; apparently there's an unfixed bug on LOW when used with Wayland, but you can modify the .desktop file to open with an environmental variable that takes of the problem quite well.
