Quick question folks. If I like a post, I always boost AND favorite it. Can you tell me why you would boost a post without favoriting it and/or favorite a post without boosting it. I feel like I'm missing something here.

I know this is a long shot, but nothing ventured, nothing gained and maybe the fediverse can help.

My oldest son (19) is moving to Eindhoven to study design at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He's looking for a room to rent, which is proving very difficult. Is there anyone in the fediverse who can help him with a room either in Eindhoven or nearby? He doesn't mind commuting.

A long shot, I'm sure, but I'm trying to repair my #kettle lid and hoped someone here could help

It's a #RussellHobbs 20460 and the spring which makes the lid pop open has fallen out. I have the spring but cannot figure out where it goes.

A web search shows other people asking the same question, but no useful answers.

If someone has one of these kettles, would they kindly post a photo or explanation of where the spring goes, please.

I can remove the lid but that didn't shed any light.

I've been experimenting with not 'liking' posts here.

With no algorithm, I guess the purpose of liking is to give (+ve) feedback, but it's ultimately a relatively shallow form of 'engagement'. I've therefore been trying to exercise discipline in only using the more meaningful types of engagement, ie boosts/reposts and replies.

I'd recommend giving it a go for a week, if only to become conscious of how you use likes/boosts/replies in general.

So, which are you going to choose for this post?

Here's why your #boosts matter so much on the #Fediverse:

There is no algorithm here. Nothing is going to insert #content into your #timeline that an algorithm thinks you might be interested in.

Your timeline consists solely of the content from the people you #follow, and the content they #boost.

No boosts and you will never find out about that cool artist that started posting their artwork. You will never find out about the photographer that just joined a Pixelfed instance and is sharing their amazing photos.

Likes don't show up in the timelines of the accounts that follow you.

The only way for people to find new and cool content and accounts to follow is by you and I #boosting their content.

This is the first time that I haven't used Instagram as my main promotional medium for one of these free, online events.

I have only 1.3% of the 'following' here as I have there, so it'll be interesting to see if the fediverse + email list leads to similar numbers joining me for BLAG Meet: Inside Issue 06 on Saturday.
