Received a heartwarming email this week from someone who found my old #band’s song “You’re On Fire” on the @creativecommons compilation “Copy Me Remix Me”.

He loved the song then, but could never find out anything else about us as The Phoenix Trap disbanded in 2004. But he recently came across #music suggestions via Spotify, YouTube, and SoundClick and now is a fan of the entire album we put out back in 2002.

All this is to show that releasing #art and other “content” via #CreativeCommons can touch people’s lives in extraordinary and unexpected ways.

I was just reading an art crit that talked about the compressed size and shape of a particular sculpture being a comment on how artists are forced to work within limitations that are imposed on them by the economy, like space, real estate, property, capital etc.
I'm no professor of politics or economics but it clicked for me that a big reason I value #freesoftware and #creativecommons is that there are no artificial constraints on the means of production for digital forms of art.
It's power :)

I've given WotC a lot of shit and side eyes lately, but at least SRD 5.2 for the 2024 rules is going to be released under the Creative Commons (CC-BY-4.0).
