#FotoVorschlag 'Gewitter'

Last year we had a thunderstorm without rain, so it was convenient to stand outside with the camera and watch the show.

I need to temporarily connect a HBA card to my laptop,
I am not sure why the prices on these things range so widely:

I don't really need the bulk of an eGPU enclosure and I am pretty happy to supply 12VDC from a bench supply instead of an ATX PSU.

Any suggestions?

Anyone have first-hand experience running #Linux on a recent #framework 13 (Intel or AMD doesn't matter much, I think, but do let me know) and using multiple #Thunderbolt (3) devices behind a Thunderbolt 4 hub (I was eyeing the CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Universal Multi-Port Hub, but other first-hand accounts welcome)? I've been trawling the community forums but to no avail.

For now I only have hardware with a TB3 port so I could only validate that the one device (a BlackMagic UltraStudio Recorder 3G, if you must ask) works under Linux. I guess experience on recent laptop hardware under similar conditions would be useful too (one TB4 port, one TB4 hub, multiple TB3 devices).

Plugging the devices on different ports would certainly work (my usecase only requires 2 devices), but using the hub as a power source for both the laptop and the attached devices seems like a compelling combination to me.

@ustralien Sadly no, and that's my big disappointment!

@frameworkcomputer decided to choose the #Apple-esque "flat cells below #trackpad" design in the unreasonable #THINN-ness race instead of doing what even the #EeePC and #Sony's #Vaio #P11Z did and have a slot at the back to chug in batteries!

  • I know why they did it, as a closed aluminium pan aka. "#lunchbox" design is easier to fabricate, but I'd rather some #ToolfreeSwappableBattery which are IMHO of more practicality than having the ability to swap out every port.

Not that I don't like those #modules, but I'd rather wish for a "#THICC-er" device if that gets me essentials like #Ethernet, #USB-A & -C as well as a #TRRS #HeadphoneJack / #HeadsetJack.

That being said the #Framework is still by a long margin the "least #enshittified" device on the market, and same goes for the #Fairphone devices...

Not to mention they don't have an #UltraNav-Style #Trackpoint and I do use that instead of a Trackpad.

@chrismarquardt Interessant...

@oskargroth

Hello! Lifetime user of #Sensei. Great app! So classy -- big fan! ❤️

Was wondering about why the storage health panel doesn't support #SMART info for #Thunderbolt devices, which do (I think?) supply SMART info? Would really like to have this feature!

(FYI, I DO see that info for TB ssds in DriveDX, just like for the built-in boot drive.)

Weren't there also plans to have some fan control features too?

What ever happened to the forums?
