@moh_kohn except @signalapp too is a #centralized, #SingleVendir & #SingleProvider solution that fully falls under #CliudAct and thus CANNOT comply with #GDPR & #BDSG as a matter of principle since this digital rquivalent of #ExtraordinaryRendition is inherently incompatible!

@monocles / #monoclesChat, @gajim / #gajim & @delta / #deltaChat, @thunderbird / #Thunderbird do support that!

Remember:

The only way we can prevent a #Cyberfacist #dystopia is to make it impossible!

I don’t have confirmation on this, and it was I think being mentioned in the context of more secure messaging apps like Signal (and one would guess others offering end-to-end encryption like WhatsApp too) still allowing access to unencrypted (not secure) data by parts of the phone.

Can someone confirm if this is accurate?

All these people asking “can my husband find out who i voted for?” — yet we’re still supposedly having a debate about messenger software giving people “too much privacy”

It’s true: the “voting” question is at the top of Google’s autosuggest list, presumably because of the harm that Donald Trump presents to women’s rights — notably but not exclusively related to sexual health and abortion.

Yet Civil Society — US and other — is willing to entertain the potential concept that people have too much privacy in their conversation, as evidenced by a recent report from All Tech Is Human, once again due to the matter of children:

In offering end-to-end security to all users the platforms may be providing systemic, pervasive, unnecessary, even excessive privacy – “too much privacy” – to too many people, a situation which may consequently hamper legislative opportunities (and some civil society goals) to impose a duty of care upon platforms, such as an obligation upon Meta (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.) to monitor the content of our children’s communications in order to keep them safer, online.

May the sanctity of the voting booth shine a light upon their minds.

@dee @concepcion no, it's not!

1. @signalapp@mastodon.world is a #centralized, #SingleVendor & #SingleProvider solutions.
2. #Signal is subject to #CloudAct.
3. You need a #PhoneNumber to use it, which is neither free nor usually available anonymously.
4. You don't have #SelfCustody of #Keys, so like #Telegram and #WhatsApp you can consider claims of #E2EE to be #marketing #lies.
5. Signal uses the #PhoneNumbers to restrict or refuse availability of their services to users.

The only trusly secure #Chat options are #XMPP+#OMEMO & XMPP+#PGP/MIME which are supported by @monocles / #monoclesChat and #Gajim as clients as well as various XMPP-Servers.

You can even use them over @torproject / #Tor as I do!

Remember: #NotYourKeys = No #EndToEndEncryption!

Infosec.SpaceKevin Karhan (@kkarhan@infosec.space)@dee@treehouse.systems @monocles@monocles.social If it wasn't reported by your contact as such and [thus] they didn't [automatically] sent a decrypted copy to #Telegram's mods for them to make the decision you can be assured it never was properly #E2EE'd in the first place. That's my main issue with all those fancy "Encrypted Chat Apps" that lie into the faces of #TechIlliterates. Unless the #User has full #SelfCustody of all the #Keys, it's not properly #EndToEndEncryption. And that is the main problem with all those centralized services: IT IS NOT securely done because the Private Keys are stored on the Providers' Servers! Not to mention it is absolutely trivial to #MITM such #centralized, #SingleVendor / #SingleProvider solutions... - - - It's like all those shady #VPN #Ads and the #Marketing #Lies done by @protonmail@mastodon.social , #EncroChat, #ANØM, #Tox and the like... https://web.archive.org/web/20240000000000*/https://twitter.com/thegrugq/status/1085614812581715968
