I just put my station on #APRS this morning. It is a base station, so it's on all the time. I am still feeling my way around APRS, and I would totally appreciate it if someone would send me a test message, so that I can see if i am receiving messages.

Can somoene send a message to KB8QPT-1 ?

Thanks!

@ai6yr LoRa has really amazing reach. But I find that meshtastic is pretty useless in our area as everyone just puts a node up but doesn't use it.

That's why I enjoy #LoRa #APRS It does well and has some use, and it is linked to APRS-IS through i-gates.

@bud_t There you go again, tempting me to tinker with something I know next to nothing about.

Cracked open the APRS manual for the FTM-200D (thanks again @croyle for selling it to me) and set things up. Figured-out how to send a message. And whaddaya know... My very first use of #APRS ever! 👍

Are there any websites that provide text search of decoded #APRS packets? On aprs.fi it seems like you can only search by "originating station".

I recently acquired a used Kenwood TH-D75A. #APRS reception and decode on this radio is way, way better than on my Yaesu FT-5DR. I expected this based on my past comparisons between Yaesu and Kenwood APRS capable radios. The difference is night and day.

I really do believe that the Kenwood APRS HTs have always been the best in terms of performance and features. And they have real, externally accessible TNCs, which is great for packet and #Winlink!

The Kenwood radios really are nice, but $$$

Woohoo! My upgraded APRS iGate is up & running for the first time! Now on a RPi 5 & using much-updated software.

I'm literally the only iGate in town now too.

I still need to do a lot of admin stuff:
- Figure out how to fit the new Pi into my stack of Pis with its different case
- Look up how to automatically send a command to kick everything off at startup instead of manually
- Customize the Pi settings to my prefs/needs and install a screen saver.
