@StaceyCornelius In the past I did configure seperate systems for clients so they can travel without fuss regardless if "P.R." #China or #Russia or the #USA or #KSA...

  • The trick is to never have anything on your device and have a dedicaded burner!

Using @tails_live / @tails / #Tails and @torproject / #TorBrowser and when that's not an option, a #SSH-Tunnel / #OpenVPN or #WireGuard-#VPN to be able to #VNC into a machine.

  • Remember: They can only extract data that was saved on a machine!

CONSIDER THE #US ENEMY TERRITORY AS IN "If you wouldn't enter #NorthKorea, then why would you enter the USA?"

Gah! Just discovered that remote desktop with #VNC to a #Mac is not possible if the user is logged out (e.g. after booting up) while #Filevault is enabled. VERY inconvenient.

Have you run into this, @mjtsai, and did you have another solution than disabling Filevault? Apple Remote Desktop probably works, but that's too much for my modest needs. (I also see only now that the 10 Gb ethernet variant of the M1 Mini is different! It has Lights Out Management.)

Is anyone on the Fediverse aware of a direct rendering manager based (accessing the video card and input hardware directly instead of through a Wayland compositor or X-server) #VNC client for #Linux? I'm looking at hooking an old Raspberry Pi 3 to a monitor, keyboard, and mouse to access a more powerful computer that I keep elsewhere and I don't want it to do anything else GUI-wise (essentially a thin client). I'm curious if it's workable but don't want to duplicate the work if it already exists.

Now I need to find a #VNC alternative that I can use from #Linux to work on other Linux machines but importantly, with a #macOS server.

(The latter is what RealVNC did *really* well.)

There always was #TigerVNC but that hasn't been updated for over a year, so I don't know if that project is even alive.

If anyone knows of good alternatives, let me know. Much appreciated! 🙏

@geerlingguy is this just a way to get a web view of #VNC when you don't have direct access to your device? Like an externally discovery mechanism coupled with firewall traversal, NAT, and proxy, negotiation, bundled in a universal browser interface.

I'm guessing that wayvpn, github.com/any1/wayvnc , is still running under the covers, and if you have direct access and a compatible VNC client, you should be able to just connect with that?
