My friend wanted to go to the spa for her birthday but her friends didn't want to go... so my friend who is her husband, and our friend group I all suggested we'd go.

I feel pretty relaxed now. I'd never gone to a spa before.

Mountain forests, onsen spas, and old towns. We stayed in Hida Takayama (飛騨高山) in the Japanese Alps, in Gifu Prefecture around the middle of Japan. In the main old town I noticed that there is a big Takayama Festival in the spring, to pray for planting rice and, in the fall, for harvesting, which is classic Shintō ritual. The parades are a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Property, a category I knew that Japan had introduced to UNESCO. There were many garages for the huge floats, a reminder that the Gion Matsuri in Kyōto isn't the only one, just the biggest Shintō festival. This was timely because I will give a presentation next week in Kyōto to Los Angeles collegiates on the requested topic of the Gion Matsuri.

While my wife and her friends were in a mountain onsen, I hiked around a mountain forest trail, often with just a narrow clearing to indicate the way. It was a rare and heavenly experience of primeval forest, with a river.

#DYK Did you know one of the first Online Dispute Resolution #ODR system incorporated into a public justice system is the Civil Resolution Tribunal #CRT in #BritishColumbia, #Canada? It was implemented in 2015, and its jurisdiction has been enlarged in small increments. It now adjudicates for 6 statutes, and lists others on its website.

I get really sick of hearing about OpenAI and the rest of the LLM crowd making absurd claims about LLMs like ChatGPT being AGI. LLMs are not even close to AGI. If you want to see real research into AGI, watch this video on Chris Eliasmith's Spaun (semantic pointer architecture unified network). It may not look as snazzy and consumer-ready as all these hallucinating LLMs being marketed to us, but this is the real deal: A single system that can do lots of different things the brain does and that LLMs can never do.

Am I crazy for pushing back on "#JS #SPA frontend by default"?

For 2 years. I've been in a team working on a French public service business logic app, mostly lists and forms w/ neat UX.

The tech is boring. PHP, Symfony, Twig templates. Treat: Turbo, Stimulus, custom elements, for those required bits of interactivity.

Hell it works. It's fast. It doesn't break. We been updating deps monthly w/o breaking changes. Never had to rewrite!

Am I crazy, or are we fooled by the JS industrial complex?
