Blob Opera is a machine learning experiment by David Li in collaboration with Google Arts and Culture.
experiments.withgoogle.com/blo

This experiment pays tribute to and explores the original musical instrument: the voice. Play four opera voices in real time. No singing skills required!

We developed a machine learning model trained on the voices of four opera singers in order to create an interactive experiment anyone can enjoy, regardless of musical skills.

I just wanted to compliment the elegance of your penultimate sentence:

> "Machine learning is great for use cases where you don't understand the problem well enough to articulate it as a set of rules and where the value of a correct answer significantly outweighs the cost of an incorrect one."

I'm grazing a bit of Quality Control theory at the moment and defining quality is an inherent "problem". Your assertion is a really handy (and broadly applicable) rule of thumb. Thank you!

Expensive introductory Springer book on ML appears to be heavily LLM-generated.

After asking for two weeks to respond, the author confe^H^H^H^H^H responds with:

“reliably determining whether content (or an issue) is AI generated remains a challenge, as even human-written text can appear ‘AI-like.’ This challenge is only expected to grow, as LLMs … continue to advance in fluency and sophistication.”

@GeePawHill Did you read the article? In the beginning, they explain clearly that #AI is only a generic term for different types and how their project of #MachineLearning (!) works. #ML is a special field: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_

And no, it doesn't diminish their work. Also climate scientists work with ML. In the EU, we have even state funding programmes.

The only problem: Most people don't know it. They don't know the differences. Therefore I post it: for showing scientifical examples.

I get really sick of hearing about OpenAI and the rest of the LLM crowd making absurd claims about LLMs like ChatGPT being AGI. LLMs are not even close to AGI. If you want to see real research into AGI, watch this video on Chris Eliasmith's Spaun (semantic pointer architecture unified network). It may not look as snazzy and consumer-ready as all these hallucinating LLMs being marketed to us, but this is the real deal: A single system that can do lots of different things the brain does and that LLMs can never do.
