2/ Ever since #SissyCat caught her first mouse a little over a week ago, she has been a different cat. She hasn't played much, she seems all serious now, she is extra alert at every sound, not sleeping as much and when she does, she is really out, etc., seems a little depressed... Heck, at times she isn't even responding as fast and in the same way when the treat bag gets shaken

Is this normal? Is this one of those things that she has to go through as she becomes a full-fledged adult cat. She is just over 3 years old.

Cross post from my veterinary account. Yeah, it really is *that* important and I needed a spot with more character allowance...

Bird's TownDr. Scott Ford (@avianvet@birds.town)Attached: 1 image Serious post here about Avian Flu, based on what I'm encountering in my field work and the word among my colleagues who are more closely involved in the field. Please read on and act. Remember when Trump dismantled the pandemic preparedness office in 2018, just a couple years before COVID hit. Remember? HELLOOOO! Remember? Don't forget, because now his administration is dragging their heels on staffing that office. Right in the face of a global pandemic of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). It has showed up about every 10y the past few decades, but this time it didn't go away. Moreover, it jumped into mammals with impunity. It's even affected people but, thankfully, so far hasn't spread from person to person. But it can, and probably will. This is not hyperbole. This is not "what if." This is NOW. While we are distracted by bread and circuses, and RFK is wasting time conjuring epidemics where they don't exist, the veterinarians and virologists on the front lines are shitting their pants seeing the real epidemic that's taking place. Folks, if this moves into a global pandemic of HPAI moving among people, it WILL disrupt everything so fast that there'd be no way to start responding effectively from scratch. Millions would die, needlessly. We need more labs, more expertise, not DOGE fumble fucking around interrupting the work. And we need a department that coordinates it and prepares us for the catastrophe that IS coming. Maybe we'll get super lucky and it won't happen this time, but HPAI is here to stay so it won't be wasted effort. Get on your government reps, state and federal, and demand that they take this seriously. Otherwise, all this anthropic bullshit they think is so important, well, you can kiss it all goodbye. #HPAI #avianflu #pandemic #politics #veterinary #birds #birdsofmastodon #health

Acupuncture for animals? A veterinary professor explains how the practice is becoming more mainstream.

From @ConversationUS: "A perentie lizard in Dallas, an African penguin in Boston and an Oberhasli goat in Chicago are just a few recent examples of animals at zoos and aquariums benefiting recently from acupuncture therapy."

People across the world celebrated #Hurricane years after he stopped the intruder.

In Oct 2019, the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals, a British #veterinary #charity, gave Hurricane its Order of Merit. The honor is the animal equivalent of the Order of the British Empire, which the royal family has awarded for #charitable & #PublicService works for over a century. In Mar 2022, Hurricane was given a Distinguished Service Medal from the award body Animals in War & Peace.
