Do not give into cynicism

Do not give into helplessness

And fucking show up to #vote in the 2026 #midterms

ESPECIALLY SHOW UP IN THE #PRIMARIES

where we can get more lefty #candidates

If people sleep on the #generalelection too much, the primaries are a fucking ghost town, and that is a painfully disgusting shame

Interpreting spending

The Times reports that Labour outspent the SNP 3:1 in the last GE. Their conclusion, the SNP is doomed. Mine, Labour raised a vast amount of money from ‘private’ donors - it allows them to ignore their membership and country. The SNP needs a revival, selling out to organisations who do not have #Scotland’s best interests at heart is no the way to go.

Holyrood elections here we come.

At least 200,000 protesters rally in Munich against #FarRight #AfD ahead of German election

February 8, 2025

MUNICH, Germany (AP) — "More than 200,000 protesters rallied in Munich, Germany, on Saturday against #FarRightExtremism ahead of the country’s #GeneralElection.

"The far-right, #AntiImmigrant #AlternativeForGermany, or AfD, is in second place in recent polls and has prompted widespread protests across the country before voters cast their ballots on #February23.

"The protest at Munich’s Theresienwiese — where Oktoberfest takes place each year — brought a significantly larger crowd than expected, according to the German dpa news agency. The event’s organizer estimated the crowd could be up to 320,000 people, many of whom carried signs against the AfD with slogans like, '#Racism and #hatred is not an alternative.'

"The protest was supported by #ActivistGroups as well as the #MunichFilmFestival, #churches and Munich soccer clubs FC Bayern and TSV 1860, among others. Police told dpa that the demonstration was peaceful.

"Similar #protests attracted large crowds on Saturday in #HanoverGermany, #RostockGermany, and elsewhere in Germany, mirroring other demonstrations that have occurred across the country in recent weeks."

Nice thing about not being on Xdotcom, I had no-idea about this stupid #ReformUK and #Tory promoted permission to hold a new #GeneralElection in the #UK until I read the BBC news this evening.

Apart from its inherent daftness it does remind me that for so-called small state advocates the #rightwing do love having expensive, bureaucratic elections all the bloody time.

BBC NewsKeir Starmer: I'm not surprised some want general election re-runThe prime minister responds to an online petition calling for a new election, months after the last poll.

A sane and balanced article on the upcoming General Election in Ireland. I do hope the authors is correct about the independent candidates and that people will not elect droves of those - they are all far-right, racist, misogynist types - would be like electing a bag of cats to run the country.
Where all the mainstream parties are failing is in none of them offering rent controls though some are offering and more social housing.
We live in interesting times.

The Irish general election draws near – Slugger O'Toole sluggerotoole.com/2024/11/19/t

Slugger O'TooleThe Irish general election draws nearFar from causing instability as some detractors of proportional representation allege, Ireland’s politics have generally been a picture of stability over the past century. Governments have generally served their full term, or something close to it, and elections have resulted in an orderly transfer of power from one government to the next – even between the parties representing factions who had once been at war. For many years, the two civil war parties, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael dominated the …

#ChrisPhilp is on #BBCLauraK saying the #Rwanda scheme would have been an effective detterrent, but unfortunately, the first flight was scheduled for three weeks after the #GeneralElection is an amusing piece of deception.

Surely, even a pillock like Philp knows the GE was called on that date was because lawyers were lined up to prevent those take offs and Sunak did not want to end his ministry with another failure chalked up against him.

The Electoral Reform Society (ERS) looks at the results of the recent UK general election and highlights four outcomes. It was the most disproportional GE result in history, with only 15% of MPs elected with more than half the votes in their constituency. The system of voting needs serious reform.

Four striking general election outcomes showing the chaos of First Past the Post – Electoral Reform Society – ERS
electoral-reform.org.uk/four-s

www.electoral-reform.org.ukFour striking general election outcomes showing the chaos of First Past the PostThe dust is settling on the results of the 2024 UK general election. We have a Labour government for the first time since 2010, with a majority of seats almost as big as Tony Blair’s l

The #UK’s #voting system is broken.

Under the First Past the Post system, the governing party were awarded 63% of seats on only 33.8& of total votes

While 42.3% who voted for parties other than 2 major parties were only granted 17.2% of MP seats. That’s one MP per 23k votes for #Labour and one MP per 482k votes for #Greens

Those who gain from such #electoral distortion can’t be allowed to ensure it continues to weaken our #democracy

actionnetwork.org/petitions/jo

actionnetwork.orgJoin the demand for a democracy that really represents usA representative democracy must broadly reflect the interests and attitudes of its people. The outcome of Thursday's election has stretched the critical idea that we live in such a democracy to breaking point. Under the First Past the Post system, the governing party were awarded 63 percent of seats on only 33.8 percent of the votes cast. At the same time the 42.3 % of voters who voted for parties other than the 2 major parties were only granted 17.2 % of the seats. Because the most distorted election outcomes in history it will both damage people's trust in politics further and struggle to deliver the long term, strong and stable government the country needs. To change society we must change the system. If politicians are serious about addressing the crisis of trust in politics, this must be the last election distorted by First Past the Post.

#Mastodon needs to chill out on "nyt being anti-left" on its reporting on #Biden. It's not. #NYTimes is just being objective.

Reality is that Biden can't win against #Trump, regardless of his deteriorating #health condition.

I'm more for #Newsom, but #MichelleObama is more popular and possibly more effective.

For me, if he was younger, I'd still write-in #BernieSanders as I did in the past. And if he was still alive, #MikeGravel. Loved these two guys.

Yes you read that right, the most self entitled little Eton schoolboy. The man believes he was born to lead, a man who’s name is Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson thinks we will be serfs, what he means is people like him might be held to account
