These states had the highest voter turnout in 2024

About 65% of voting-age Americans cast a ballot in last November's elections, per new Census Bureau estimates, down from nearly 67% in 2020.

Why it matters: Even in high-stakes presidential elections like we had last year, many Americans simply don't take part — whether out of disinterest or inability.

Zoom in: Washington, D.C. (79.5%), Minnesota (75.9%) and Oregon (75.3%) had the largest shares of voting-age citizens participating in the 2024 election.

Arkansas (52.8%), Texas (57.9%) and Louisiana (58%) had the lowest.

Between the lines: Lack of participation doesn't necessarily imply voter apathy. Some want to vote but are unable due to work, health issues, etc.

The big picture: American presidential elections come down to a handful of "battleground states."

That creates a sense among other voters that their ballot doesn't matter — at least for the presidential contest.

Yes, but: There are typically still plenty of down-ballot candidates and measures even for those living elsewhere.

The bottom line: U.S. voter turnout hasn't cracked 70% since the dawn of the 20th century — and if this past election couldn't do it, it may never happen again.

If you could go back in a time capsule to #Germany in 1933 and ask #legislators in the #Reichstag, "are you in favor of #impeachment?" and they responded, "we don't have the votes but let's wait and see after the #midterms," how would that hold up in hindsight?

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders (R-Ark.) requested help for people who were impacted by the mid-March tornadoes, some of the state’s worst since 1997.

The Trump administration denied Sanders’s request for funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). She wrote again to Trump to appeal the denial.

In a letter, signed by both Arkansas senators and its four representatives, the lawmakers asked Trump to reconsider.

“As Governor Sanders noted in her request, these storms caused catastrophic damage across the state, resulting in disastrous amounts of debris, widespread destruction to homes and businesses, the deaths of three Arkansans, and injuries to many more,” the lawmakers wrote.

They noted that just weeks later, the state was hit with another round of severe storms, including a “generational flood event” that compounded damage for many of the same counties and included three more deaths.

“Given the cumulative impact and sheer magnitude of destruction from these severe weather events, federal assistance is vital to ensure that state and local communities have the capabilities needed to rebuild,” the lawmakers said.

The Arkansas delegation said a preliminary assessment of damage had an estimated cost of $8.8 million and asked that Sanders’s request for a 30-day extension on submitting a disaster declaration be granted. The state needs additional time to conduct analysis on the damage in 63 of its 75 counties.

The damage by Nature is just as bad as the Trump Administration

The #MAGA goal was to make people perceive Congress AND Biden were doing ZERO ACTION.
So anything Trump does as President is "good" even, raising costs from #tariffs
