Hey, #FediHire me! 🥳
I'm looking for a decent #job, preferably remote.
Any help is appreciated.

I bring a ton of skills and more than a decade of experience as a #software #engineer, have been working mostly on #web #applications and some #mobile over the years, and done lots of #systems programming and #firmware in my spare time projects. 🧑‍💻⚙️

My main languages are Rust and JavaScript/TypeScript.
I'm based in Germany.

More details and CV are at dan.orangecms.org/.

Please #boost, thanks!

Seems like SanDisk WD_BLACK SN770M drives like to set themselves on fire without throttling 😞 🔥 codeberg.org/ell1e/sandisk-wd_ #firmware #firmware_security #bug #security #disclosure

(Also, SanDisk support seems to think for Linux users this can be ignored, despite the drive being advertised for the Steam Deck. 👀 I'm not sure why.)

@mrmasterkeyboard np.

To me @OS1337 is just an attempt to a minimalist #Linux distro because I want some #reproduceable & #auditable #firmware for various other projects, and both @yoctoproject and #RaspberryPiOS 'lite' seem rather excessive to me.

I just think that it can have serious benefits being less distracting and allowing me (and others) to just use basically any hardware to get work done...

  • The rest of the component selection came because it was either dictated by necessity (Linux has the most driver support and biggest community), alignment with values & goals ( @landley 's #toybox is a clean & minimalist userland) and being better than #GNU stuff (i.e. @musl / #musl) by not bricking shit at random minor updates…

@lmemsm basically the Idea behind it is to be a brutally simple #toybox + #musl / #linux distro that grew out of the necessity for me to actually think about #firmware for some projects.

Basically I want something that is so simple and auditable that it's practical to make it pass any #verification demands for #SecureTerminal|s in #CriticalInfrastructure and #Communications.

  • OFC one may point at my other projects and say: "Why don't you just put #RaspberryPiOS on a #microSD?" ignoring that the smallest image is >330MB in size and that seems kinda overkill for essentially my demands for a minimalist #Linux with very few programs in userspace.

Not to mention a #GNUfree - #Linux distro is the way to go if I want that thing to not get bricked constantly by minor #GlibC-changes...

  • End goal is something akin to #MSDOS in it's brutal simplicity, but way more extendable.

I hope that answers your question...

  • Sorry for the delay.

So on this lazy sunday afternoon I felt like checking out a few more exotic Amiga models in the WinUAE emulator. I had picked an A3000 with ROM v1.4. ... configured it... and it worked... up to a point. Because it asks for a so-called "Super-Kickstart Disk". And this is where it started to get annoying!

I am usually not too stupid... and I am not an Internet newbie, either. But today it literally took me "hours" to find this simple file called "superkickstart-204-a3000.adf". I eventually found it, and it works. But, why is this so hard? Amiga and all of its ecosystem is pretty much gone since 1994! Stuff like this should not be hiddden or hard to find! Okay, on second thought: Maybe I really AM just stupid.

Sorry for the rant. - Enjoy the rest of your weekend! 😉

@aurynn the problem is that #vendors have neither interest nor incentive to work with 3rd party #ROMs like @LineageOS nor @GrapheneOS.

@soatok Hi, I'm uvok. Member of the furry fandom since I don't know when.

I'm #firmware developer to earn my living. As a consequence, I "kinda lost my passion" for programming in my free time, or I just lack the energy? Not sure which it is. ("I studied electrical engineering, I have to have electronic projects!!!" is a weird pressure I put onto myself for a while).

Took interest in computer networking a while ago and decided to run an Autonomous System. Now it just runs itself. Still not sure what to do with it. Maybe I'm gonna put it on my CV?

I occasionally blog. Mostly about technical/computer subjects.

I started to play #guitar in 2019, took private lessons until my teacher moved one or two years ago. Haven't looked for another one yet, putting it off constantly. I noodle around occasionally and look for sheet music. I play in a group/"an ensemble" with flutists, though!

I love being outside, walking or bicycling, a few days ago I bought a pedelec which I already tested. It's fun. I like to read, technical subjects, or fantasy.

I occasionally pick up a not-exactly-hobby / learning subject, do it for some time, and then lose interest again.

Looking for "meaning" in my life, I help counting votes at elections, am member of a employee organization at my employer, and (occasionally) help at furry conventions (so far in the kitchen and at the front desk).

Usually too shy to approach other people, as a consequence probably missing out a lot of fruitful connections.
