@n69n You're not wrong. #reddit encourages echo chambers by design, and how toxic those chambers become depend a great deal on the mindset of the people moderating them. I was a mod of the #exchristian subreddit, and I helped enforce the principle that we were there to support each other, not compete or tear each other down over petty disagreements. But we still had countless bots and trolls coming in to either exploit us or try to shame us for our apostasy.

I logged out of reddit a year ago July because of their policy changes to kill third party apps, tools we relied on to keep up with moderation tasks. I haven't logged in since, and I never will again. I'm pleased to see the community there is still going strong, but the word I hear from friends who still log in is that the overall site is overrun by bots and grifters. It's sad to see.

If you are an #atheist, if you're a #humanist, and you're struggling to understand from where #morality comes, I would encourage you to look up the concepts of #harm and #HarmReduction.

You can have an objective moral standard that doesn't require the subjective notions of gods.

Consider these syllogisms:
P1: Murder causes pain and suffering to the victim and/or anyone that loves them.
P2: Pain and suffering are types of harm.
C: We should therefore reduce harm by avoiding murder.

P1: Getting a vaccine via shot causes temporary pain (i.e. harm).
P2: Vaccines prevent the spread of disease.
P3: Diseases can cause suffering and death (i.e. harm).
C: The temporary harm caused by the shot should not be avoided, in order to reduce the greater harm from disease.

Made it an entire week with the inlaws.. Then last night all the cousins were together to open presents and the FIL decided to have a Jesus quiz to see what order the kids got to open presents. 9yr old was not amused. Me and the wife were fuming. 🤬🤯😡

This morning as we were leaving I mentioned the snow we'd hit 12 hours into the drive, FIL's reply "makes ya wonder how they know all that" 😶🤷‍♂️

This is why I don't want to visit family around holidays.

While parts of this article are misinformed, including who exactly makes up the Nones (hint: it’s NOT just those raised outside religion), I overall found it to be encouraging. #emptythepews #nones #atheists #agnostics #criticalthinking #exchristian Deserted churches and fewer #believers #swiss abandon God - SWI swissinfo.ch swissinfo.ch/eng/society/deser
