What's been quite fun over the last few weeks is finding an electricity supplier with a free three hours of electricity during the day (11am-2pm). We work from home, and we find that the 11am deadline is enough to get us up from our desks and loading the dishwasher/washing machine etc, and seeing how much electricity we can feasibly use during that time. (The solar panels are normally at full generation then, and so are supplying half the power we use at that time anyway. Cunning.).

What's also been fun is a) fixing the solar inverter to report locally every five minutes, rather than fifteen; and b) getting the Home Assistant box to use this better data to calculate how much our electricity is costing at this moment.

The "bumps" in consumption at 9am-ish today was heating; then our solar took over. By 11am, you can see us turning everything on - the pool pump kicks in, the hot water heater, the dishwasher, the washing machine... fun!

This weekend I got #proxmox running with a #Debian #docker container running #frigate and a virtual machine running #HomeAssistant on a #BeeLink #EQi12 #miniPC.

I have HA triggering a snapshot every 2 minutes and saving it locally. The next step is to get the snapshots to be on a rolling index that overwrites the old files. Then I need to figure out how to push the files up to an SFTP or similar web server.

I do have Frigate auto detecting but there's still more to do there.

Ich wollte mir gerade in #Homeassistant was anschauen und bin fast vom Stuhl gefallen.

Alle !!!! Kein
#Update gemacht, nichts an irgendeiner #Config verändert. Gar nichts.

Gratis tip: zorg voor goede backups!

Smart home additions 2025Q3:

  • ✅ 2x Temperature + Humidity sensors (Zigbee)
  • ✅ Airco (App + Google home)
  • ✅ Zigbee ↔ Matter Bridge
  • 🚚 Air Purifier (Homekit)
  • ⌛ Homekit ↔ Google Home bridge

I'm really pleased with the "Thirdreality" bridge to add Zigbee devices, the sensors are from the same brand. For the price (each ~20eur) it's a steal.

PSA: if you have any Belkin Wemo Smart Home Devices, now is the time to reset them and set them up with HomeAssistant, Thread or Apple HomeKit!

(If you are one of the people who knows how to set up HomeAssistant (I’m not one), there’s going to be a lot of people needing your help!)

I saw this yesterday. I'm wondering how hard it would be to pair the Mini Lite with a @homeassistant back end and let #HomeAssistant use it for sensors and as a satellite for voice commands. The article says they're "fully programmable in Python", so it FEELS like that should be a possibility, but I don't have the skill set that would be required to do that. I might buy one if I thought I could use one that way.
