Great Albums - 1970s: #BruceSpringsteen – #BornToRun (1975). Bruce’s turnpike gothic had meaning for guys, like those in The Deer Hunter, who came home to find jobs had dried up and the girl they’d planned to marry had married their kid cousin. It’s weird, cause in that movie they dance to Frankie Valli (which has a belated Sopranos logic), but I always thought Bruce’s “broken heroes on a last chance power drive” fit it better. Too much on the nose, perhaps.
