Texas GOP Lawmakers Propose Amending Abortion Ban Linked to Deaths and a Rise in Sepsis Cases

The bill comes after ProPublica’s reporting on the deaths of three Texas women. It specifies that doctors don’t need to wait until an emergency is “imminent” to terminate pregnancies but leaves in steep penalties for those who violate the law.

Men who don't want to pay child support kill women who won't or can't have abortions. In Red states, those murders are now escalating steeply - but the cheeto administration doesn't want you to know that, or be able to quantify by exactly how much.

Because to these whackos, a woman's right to life stops the second she gets pregnant.

"State Sen. Bryan Hughes, R-Mineola, filed Senate Bill 31. He said this would ensure that doctors who practice obstetrics and gynecology must take a course to know what the law is, and the course must also be available to hospital lawyers as well.

'Our goal is to make the statutes crystal clear,' said Hughes. 'So there is no excuse, no delay in treating moms that need help and making sure that docs know what the law is.'"

I have not been able to read lately. Too overwhelmed with... Everything. But I decided to pick Invisible Labor: The Untold Story of the Cesarean Section by Rachel Somerstein.

Personally, I have had two abortions, one vaginal birth, and one planned C-section (high risk pregnancy). While I never experienced trauma, I bled for more than 6 months after my C-section which I assume is far from normal though my doctor never seemed concerned.

"Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Monday announced the arrest of a Houston-area midwife for allegedly performing illegal abortions and practicing medicine illegally, marking the first criminal case to be filed under the state’s abortion ban.

Maria Margarita Rojas, 48, is accused of illegally operating a network of clinics in the Northwest Houston area, according to a statement from Paxton’s office."

"Republican state legislators unveiled a new effort on Friday to derail the health care network that has helped people in Texas continue accessing abortion years after the Lone Star State banned the procedure. The...bill targets tech companies that allow patients to order abortion pills online and nonprofit funds that help them travel out of state for care..."

When Spanish colonizers established a town in the mountains of Bolivia in the 1500s, they might have expected to expand their communities by having babies, but they could not. While Indigenous folks raised families, not a single child of European descent was born for decades. It was all down to the lack of oxygen at altitude, which the settlers were not genetically adapted to deal with. @KnowableMag reports on how scientists are now studying this to see if they can help pregnant people whose bodies are struggling to provide enough oxygen to their fetuses, at any altitude.

Headline: The Trump Administration Has Made 150 Million American Workers Newly Vulnerable to Workplace Discrimination

Source: Center for American Progress

From the article: "Essentially, all employees and job seekers, a total of approximately 153 million Americans, benefit from the protections the EEOC provides. The Equal Pay Act—a law requiring equal pay for equal work that the EEOC enforces—covers virtually all employers, while other laws enforced by the EEOC apply to all but the smallest employers. Whether they work in the private sector or for the government, practically all employees and those applying for jobs are protected by the EEOC against illegal employer actions" (Annotations removed for clarity)
