Cooking Spaghetti with a Hammer

We use mental scripts or autopilots to streamline our lives. They can work really well, which makes it easy to fall into the trap of using a hammer to cook spaghetti.

I make farina in a pot on the stove. It takes about 5 minutes and is really easy to get it to exactly the texture I want. My spouse makes farina in the microwave, which takes about 5-6 minutes, and is really easy to screw up and get a lumpy, inedible mess. The only advantage I can see to the microwave is not having to wash a pot. We have a dishwasher.
