Radical Anthropology<p>Study questions the theories on why selection for larger brains in hominins (social brain vs ecological) and considers the relationship with <a href="https://c.im/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a>/fire control (err but this would involve social brain wouldn't it??)</p><p>'While the Cooking Hypothesis is considered, it is not identified as the primary driver of brain expansion. Instead, fire control and cooking are proposed as prerequisites for sustaining brain size increases by meeting the energetic demands of larger brains. Additionally, we examine mutations that influenced brain size and complexity and contributed to the genetic variability that was pivotal to brain evolution, particularly in Africa during its final phase.'</p><p><a href="https://c.im/tags/brainsize" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>brainsize</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/MiddlePleistocene" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MiddlePleistocene</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/humans" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>humans</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/socialbrain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>socialbrain</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://c.im/tags/fire" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fire</span></a></p><p><a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/evan.70008?campaign=woletoc" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/ab</span><span class="invisible">s/10.1002/evan.70008?campaign=woletoc</span></a></p>
tjhowse<p>I have, to my shame, no fried rice recipe in my repertoire. Do any of y'all have any favourite recipes, or general rules of fried rice improv?</p><p>I'm not much of an ingredient essentialist. I'm thinking something along the lines of peas, corn, capsicum, celery, onion (spring?), finely-diced bacon, tiny bit of sesame oil. None of the fam are seafood fans, so shrimp are out. I don't know what brings that signature hint of smoky char.</p><p><a href="https://howse.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://howse.social/tags/rice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>rice</span></a> <a href="https://howse.social/tags/friedrice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>friedrice</span></a> <a href="https://howse.social/tags/recipe" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>recipe</span></a></p>
sortius :Fire_Bisexual:<p>To go along with the sauce, I'm making a classic Italian meatball. It's pretty easy:</p><p>Pork, beef, some sort of fatty preserved pork (bacon, speck, pancetta), bread soaked in milk, egg, and whatever herbs/spices you want, plus a good pinch of salt to help it knit.</p><p>Knead it until you see no more bread chunks, then rest for a few hours, make meatballs, cook in a pan, under the grill, however you want.</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cooking</span></a></p>
sortius :Fire_Bisexual:<p>Making one of my favourite, real traditional, pasta sauces. Can be used on anything, modified to make different sauces, just a good, rustic tomato sauce, and it's simple:</p><p>Chop onion into quarters, peel garlic by giving them a bit of a crush with the flat of a knife, roughly chop a cleaned unpeeled carrot, add olive oil, add tomato (pasata, polpa, whatever), add some water, shove in a medium oven for hours, checking every so often and adding water as needed</p><p><a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/Cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cooking</span></a></p>

SaltPhoenix<p>Nothing will make you learn about the genocidal history of colonization all over the world, and the exploitive nature of capitalism faster than trying to make an "authentic" recipe with real ingredients. <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/history" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>history</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/FoodHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FoodHistory</span></a></p>
SaltPhoenix<p>Again with a recipe calling for a processed, grocery store item as one of the ingredients, when what I'm starting with is an actual vegetable that I grew. It came out of the ground. I planted it and dug it up. Sigh. So let me go ahead and apply my 30000 yrs of ancestral knowledge to figure it out. Anything to avoid a grocery store. This is my revolutionary praxis. 🙄 <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/resist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>resist</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/eatlocal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>eatlocal</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/survival" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>survival</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/foodjustice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>foodjustice</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/foodsovereignty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>foodsovereignty</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/homestead" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homestead</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/capitalism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>capitalism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/food" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>food</span></a></p>
