Developed by a consortium of experts - including myself on the Policy Sub-Committee - submissions for the discussion paper are sought on the key opportunities, impacts & barriers associated with Australia’s transition to connected and #automated #transport.

These contributions will directly inform the development of recommendations to be debated and refined during #TheSummit: 17-18 September in #Brisbane

“Canva co-founder #MelaniePerkins wrote to staff on May 5 to unveil #Canva’s official #AIGuidelines, two months after it axed the majority of its #TechnicalWriters division and directed #engineers to complete the bulk of their #tasks using #AITools.

The COACHES (weaselword for manager) said the company had recently directed them to *formally assess* the way employees, known internally as “Canvanauts”, use AI in their six-monthly PERFORMANCE reviews. They also said the company has #automated the #writing of these #reviews.

A company spokesperson denied these claims in a lengthy statement but said Canva does “ENCOURAGE” employees to “reflect on how they’re using AI in their work” on an informal basis and said they use an internal tool that assesses performance reviews against their internal metrics after a human has written the

(No dissent tolerated)

“We’re incredibly committed to helping our team thrive in this new era of AI. We’re making significant investments in upskilling across the entire company, with a strong focus on learning and experimentation,” the Canva spokesperson said.

“Our #investmentstrategy in this space aren’t about #replacing our TEAM’s #judgement, #creativity, or #craft, but scaling them so we can spend more time on the projects that move us closer to our mission and make a difference for our community,”

(Emphasis note on TEAM, not individuals)

For a consumer facing software company, the last place I’d be removing human input would be where the technology touches customers. The usability, instructions, reliability through Engineering, Art and crafting of a product.

Where do you cut? Accounting, excessive management (top & bottom) and back office. This is the difference between an accounting/MBA and an Engineering / consumer focused company.

No wonder the technical staff are looking at #Unions. JobBot unleashed by the *Boss Class* to replace technical staff. 🦾🤖🦿

Not just #ChatControl.

Can't wait for #Orban, and consequently #Putin, to get hold of this:

»This will enable secure #automated exchanges of #fingerprints, #DNA profiles, #vehicle registration data, #facial images, and police #records through EU routers. At national level, Member States need to implement the Information Exchange Directive enhancing information exchange channels for seamless cross-border information flow, while ensuring their integration with Union-level systems, such as SIENA«

We already hae #AGI, it's just not replacing like doctorates but is rather in it's "#8bit" era...

Cuz that's already happening to some extent as machines need to be barely better than humans to win by virtue of economic scalability...

  • For comparison: Just saving 5-10% fuel on a plane is enough for airlines to retrofit entire fleets with new engines or selling them off into the used market...

“Though it seemed completely #automated, Just Walk Out relied on more than 1,000 #people in #India watching and labeling videos to ensure accurate #checkouts. The cashiers were simply moved off-site, and they watched you as you shopped.”

Just learned that there’s a JavaScript-based screen reader driver for test automation called Guidepup.

guidepup.dev

Works with VoiceOver & NVDA (no Narrator or Orca/Linux support – but Orca is broken under Wayland so the latter, at least, is not surprising.)

Very cool! I look forward to the day that writing accessibility tests is as commonplace as writing unit tests.

"Something you need to understand is that when #capitalists #say something “can’t be #automated” what they mean is “it can be automated, but running a #sweatshop is cheaper.”

Meanwhile, when #workers say something “can’t be automated” they mean “maybe you can automate it but the results will be somewhere between ‘incredibly poor #quality’ and ‘turns #people into meat paste’.”

Anyway I feel like that’s a distinction worth mentioning."

Abdication of our #human responsibility is the greatest danger of #AI, in all its forms, past, current, and future.

The technology should always be considered and used as #tool wielded by people with rigorous #oversight and limited power.

That won't happen, and we will absolutely live in a world where critical decisions directly and indirectly affecting all but the #elite will be #automated.

Not only were #Huxley, #Orwell, and others prescient, so too was #Kafka.

A #surreal new world dawns.
