NT parliament passes CLP government's territory coordinator bill
The Northern Territory government has passed the territory coordinator bill through parliament, giving it the power to override dozens of regulatory laws relevant to projects of "economic significance".

The English-only NT parliament is undermining healthy democracy by excluding Aboriginal languages

"42% of NT residents speak a non-English language at home. Only half of eligible Aboriginal residents in the NT are enrolled to vote, and voter participation is even lower. Recognition – Rejecting someone’s language means rejecting their identity. Reconciliation is not just something parliamentarians should direct others to do, it’s something that needs to happen within parliament itself."

"The NT is a rich, multilingual society. How can the Legislative Assembly claim to fully represent the breadth of NT society when it chooses to be monolingual?"

Localization is important to make Decentralization work and last.

Decentralization without Localization can be susceptible to Centralization.

Decentralization with Localization spreads out decision-making and power to groups (that could consistent of a single individual) with a personal stake in the outcome of the decision-making.

Which creates incentives that lead to greater resilience to Centralization.

The wombat outcry :
An (illegal) selfie with wildlife
vs systematic wildlife destruction and wilful neglect

"The irony of our country’s leaders condemning the actions of a young tourist’s treatment of a wombat while shamelessly sanctioning their slaughter is impossible to overlook...Kangaroos, native birds, possums, black swans and emus are just a few of the many native animals that landholders are granted licences to kill under the ATCW list."

"Our leaders have a lot to answer for and must confront the uncomfortable truth of their own involvement in wildlife destruction. They can no longer ignore the role they play in enabling the harm of native animals while lecturing others on respect for wildlife."

Australians’ love affair with monster family cars

"These big cars are fuelling congestion, blocking up streets and outstripping the size of car parks, leading to calls to build bigger ones – dismaying safety and environment advocates."

"The Monash University Accident Research Centre has also found that larger cars are much more likely to cause deaths and serious injuries to other people when they’re in an accident."

In a nutshell: The analyis of different GNU/Linux distributions shows how community culture inform technology development, and technology shapes its users.
In times of #Trumpism and #musk it becomes evident, that we need control over our software.
We also need to include users and adress their needs through #governance and #participatorydesign

Why cutting red tape needn’t cut red tape: you can’t just have zero rules so you’ll end up with a mess of different rules.

OTOH, I guess you could abolish Rule of Law altogether and go for pure corruption, but administering that much corruption will create its own bureaucracy

Is AI hallucination a new risk?
If you have heard anything about Generative AI, you have heard about its "hallucinations". They provide great fodder for the media, who can point out many silly things that Gen AI has produced since appeared on the AI scene (around 2021-2022). However, as Gen AI gets adopted by more organisations, how should Directors and Executives think about hallucinations, the resulting risk to their organisations, and what approach can be taken to probe whether the risks are being managed? Are Gen AI hallucinations a new risk, or do we already have tools and approaches to manage them?

Superintelligent Agents Pose Catastrophic Risks (Bengio et al., 2025)

📎arxiv.org/pdf/2502.15657

Summary: “Leading AI firms are developing generalist agents that autonomously plan and act. These systems carry significant safety risks, such as misuse and loss of control. To address this, we propose Scientist AI—a non-agentic, explanation-based system that uses uncertainty to safeguard against overconfident, uncontrolled behavior while accelerating scientific progress.” #AISafety #AI #Governance
