Canadian CivilReece MartinEver wondered why your city's transit just doesn't seem quite up to snuff? RMTransit is here to answer that, and help you open your eyes to all of the different public transportation systems around...
Switzerland's public transport system, and in particular its rail network, has long been more than a means of getting from A to B – it is a defining feature of the country's identity. Born in the 19th century amid industrial expansion and alpine engineering ambition, Swiss railways became vital to connecting remote mountain regions with economic centres, ensuring mobility across linguistic and cultural divides.

Today, Switzerland boasts one of the most efficient, punctual, and integrated public transport systems in the world. Trains not only link cities and villages with precision, but they also embody the country’s values: environmental responsibility, public service, and technical excellence. The Swiss trains winding through dramatic alpine landscapes have become cultural icons – symbols of balance between innovation and tradition.

Whether for daily commuters, schoolchildren, or tourists, public transport in Switzerland reflects a collective investment in accessibility, cohesion, and sustainable living.

How can it be that there’s no usable train service between Indianapolis and Chicago?

The cities are less than 200 miles apart. There is a world-class research university right in the middle—Purdue—with close connections to both cities. And Illinois and Indiana have some of the best, densest legacy rail infrastructure in the nation.

Quality train service should be an easy win. Its absence is a spectacular self-own for Indiana.

There's a weird campaign in some #newspapers in #Scotland against the #alcohol ban on #Scotrail #trains. But no alcohol bans are common on #PublicTransport- e.g. on #Edinburgh's buses and Transport for #London. Can you imagine a local #media campaign to end the alcohol ban on the London Underground?

Daily Record · 'No evidence' Scotrail alcohol ban reduces anti-social behaviour on trainsBy Chris McCall

Looks like there might be an interesting exhibit/presentation in my neighboorhood May 3rd.

Perhaps(!?) a bit of a cynical take on my part, but, it's kind of tragic that it is going to take almost 100 years to re-create the #PublicTransit connection between #EverettWA & #Seattle

There's a decent, if brief, summary of the early #history in the article.
