I've been playing XWVM today. It's a fan rewrite of 1993's Star Wars: X-Wing, requiring the original to play (there's a version of that available on Steam).
It's delightful.
It's still in alpha, and has a few rough edges, but it's extremely playable. Of particular interest to me is that they added VR support. Zooming through the Pilot Proving Ground of my childhood at a million miles an hour, only now I can look around, was a wonderful experience. They've also added two MFDs to the fighters that show the sort of data you got in the various paused screens in Tie Fighter: the map, the mission objectives, damage control, that kind of thing.
There was an official Star Wars VR game whose name escapes me that I tried a few years ago. I hated it. Too on-rails, fighters too sluggish. What I wanted, really, was this.
Highly recommended.
