I just got a #scam #call from a #number I probably marked as #scamlikely and they left a message "please return my call at your earliest convenience"
The thing that I don't understand is why I don't have an opinion to just ignore. Like, I'm reading, and suddenly this phone starts shaking and the pop up comes up with 3 options... hangup, pickup or screen. How about ignore? I already know it's a scam number. And why allow them to leave a message at all? It's a scam number! Give me a #ban option!
Every once in a while I encounter someone asking how define a #number like 3. And I respond by saying that there are mathematical definitions that define these in ways that get us the right mathematical properties, but those definitions are not going to give you insight into what numbers are.
It will be interesting to see what Frédéric Patras has to say in “The Essence of Numbers”, which I’ve just started to read. The introduction contains
“to justify the existence of the most ordinary numbers, one, two, three…, [the theory] had to resort to abstract processes whose complexity seems to be out of proportion with that of the entities that were being defined.”

So of course each furnace line has a different (in my case) #Rheem #part #number for the motor, even though all of them are actually the same 1/2 HP GE motor and controller -- they've just had different #settings "blown" into them.
And if you try to use the "wrong" motor from another furnace, the control board says "no way!" and won't work.
So Rheem gets to keep #selling #parts that are #exclusive only to them, and only for one model of furnace, so they're stupidly #expensive.
