Woke up to 1" of sleety snow, 0c, with borderline icy rain and thick fog, which would make today's remote run at 1300m a bit silly, since I didn't know the route/terrain.

Jumped into HQ and drove 1000m down and found sunshine and views of the stunning snowy mountains.

Run wasn't as fast as I had hoped because first we found a cows horn that the Irish mutt wanted to play and then run with for over a 1km with. Then we found the cows had set up camp on the trail/farm track so we had to navigate around and hope we didn't set off a stampede.

The Spanish mutt did some dry stone checking for @kristiedegaris ;)

Bonus capture jumping the queue today because I'm burning with curiosity:

What caused the damage to this tree's bark in this patterned fashion? Was the lower rupture likely made by the same force?

Putting these questions to all the woodspeople, forest folk, ecologists, biologists, botanists, entomologists, and other science hippies in the Fediverse. Please scratch my itch 🙏

(P.S. No, I didn't capture any other images of the tree; and, no, I can't positively ID the tree. I'm terrible with tree ID. An alder? A young...something or other? Sorry 🙇)

Grayson Schaffer sharing letters to Robin Thurston on Instagram: After the latest staff cuts at @outsidemagazine , where all of the remaining veteran editors were let go, the majority of the magazine’s longtime contributors asked to be taken off the masthead.  Here is Hampton Sides’ letter, and you really gotta link through and read the whole thing: […] …

Since we had rain yesterday the trail was a bit moist, one uphill was running against gravity and the water flow. Penny the Spanish mutt loved the route, loads of rabbit poop to eat... I skipped out on one peak to take the route to 6.5km, as I'm still coming back from the "time off", I think my bumb and thighs would have moaned if I did, so only 5.75km

New video is up! This is an unreal run/hike on the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten. The best part is it's totally doable from the cruise ship port if you want to ditch all the excursions and jewelry shops for something a bit more authentic.

Pay attention to what you're doing, though. There's parts that are a little hairy!

Still managing a huge amount of stress but looking to get my head back in the training game. Mixing it up a bit seems like the smart play.

Adding strides to my runs is fun. But I’ve not tried shorter Tabata runs before. Have any of you tried these before? Did it help you?
