I've been using my limited hobby time for exercising the #spinningwheel instead of mini painting. I'm going to finish this alpaca that's been sitting in stash for years so that I can move on to the super cool orange mohair/alpaca/firestar that magicked its way into my hands.
cats know why there is only a one letter difference between plying and playing
my mystery fiber has now transformed into mystery wool and is ready for its first bath.
now i kinda hope that it is not alpaca since i want to knit a hat and it shouldn't grow too much with blocking please.
but i have some mohair i can hold with it so that might help

I love spinning singles, but I do not love plying them into yarn. :P
(No advice, please. These are simply statements of fact.)
hi spinning folk, do you have any tips for spinning wool with a very short staple length (like 3cm)? I've inherited a lot of old fibre but my first attempt at spinning a thin high twist yarn with it on my antique double dive wheel wasn't very promising. But I know the person spun a lot with it so it should be possible

Operation Spin With Color in January continues
I usually don’t have plans in mind for my spinning, I just spin whatever I feel like making. But I think this project will turn into a hat & pair of mittens. The loose ply & little bit of thick & thin should work well for trapping air for warmth
Question for spinners: what is better: a flyer with hooks or with sliding guides? I like to wrap the yarn from left to right and back again between the hooks, and was wondering how you do that with the sliding guides... @spinning #spinning #SpinningWheel
Yarn made on my antique spinning wheel I found at an estate sale for $30! #art #spinningwheel #spinning #yarn #fiberart
Went to Schacht Spindle today and had a tour of the factory, looked at the “showroom” such as it is, and tested spinning wheels. I’d like to introduce you to my new Ladybug wheel, which, due to my lack of originality with naming, is either going to be named Lady, or Bug, or maybe Tramp. #HandSpinning #SpinningWheel #FiberArts #spinning
In this week's blog post, I share with you my handspun yarn from Handmaiden NZ's May fibre subscription.

A lady from #SquareDancing gave (!!) me a slightly beaten up Louet S10 #SpinningWheel. She promised that it worked & absolutely refused payment. It's been years since I've spun anything. Today I finally put the wheel together. There's potential for a smooth spin. Makes a bit of noise & uptake is too quick for my bumbling hands, even with the brake completely off. I'll keep working with her & see if we can get along. It feels so nice to have wool sliding through my fingers again. #HandSpinning

I was lucky with this shot, she looked up just as I was lining up the camera and I got this snap.

Listen, I somehow have stumbled into a group of friends whose love language is “I found this thing and thought of you” and I’m LIVING for it.
Is it possible that my friends are secretly crows? Yes. I’m okay with that too.
In other news, I am now the owner of this (currently non-functional) spinning wheel from a local historical society. #spinning #SpinningWheel

I used to #crochet until I picked up #knitting; I've been hooked ever since. My latest endeavor is learning how to use a #spinningWheel for #handspinning. My goal for 2024 is to spin and knit a sweater entirely by hand.
I almost exclusively post about #FiberArts @fiberarts @knitting with a bit of #gardening and personal life posts mixed in
Spinning Peacock (Corriedale x nylon) and combining with black Jacob top = my very first wheel spun 2 ply! The Jacob has been the most enjoyable to spin with so far.
